High Positive with Herpeselect, Negative for Biokit

I have been with the same boyfriend for 3 years. Either of us are experience any outbreak, but just a doctor recommend to check the STDs since I have the urine infection. As I known, herpes test usually not include in a routine check but they did it anyhow. The result came back in September 27
HSV 1 8.0 - positive (The result was from Herpeselect Kit from Focus Diagnostics, cross-reactivity with CMV, NZV, HHV6, and VZV viruses is possible)
I have had chicken pox vaccine when I was little. I'm not sure if that the cause for the positive result.
I went to the STDs specialist and have the  Biokit test (October 5), and the result came out negative.
Is there confirmed that I have negative? or should I run another any other test?

Im not following this at all. If you test values for hsv2 was 3 or below, this is a sign of a false positive and if you tested a second time with the biokit (which is hsv2 specific) then your negative. If you tested for hsv2 and had a value of 8 and retested and was below 1, something is  wrong here.

Do the western blot and put this behind you, its the only answer as this will be conclusive.

I know I was shocked when I got the result from the mail to. I don't know what to do know, the result is too high in test 1 to be false positive but biokit test was negative. Please helppp!

Hi again. igM  test is greatly flawed and this was a waste of money if they did an igM test.

Thank you for your respsone, but i'm screw, I finally got my 2nd result from the mail and the dr. at the hospital did the Herpes simplex type 2 Antibody IGM and the value is 20 (more than 10 is positive) so I don't think this test is count. so I'm repharse what I had said
1st test on 9/27 Herpeselect EIA igg HSV 1 is 0.2 and HSV 2 is 8.0 (there is also a note from under HSV2 test said that 'Cross-reactivity with taxonomically related viruses such as CMV, NBV, VCA, and VZV is possible)  I have chicken pox vaccine when I was little, that's why I assume this might cause the high number
2nd test on 10/4 at HSV2 IGM 20 (positive for larger than 10)
3rd test on 10/5 at a specialist STDs, with Biokit  for HSV2 and it came out negative.
Any other advice for me?

Cross reactivity means all the virus are mixed in one value thats what we need to confirm but is thats the test they did then through it out of the equation and you negative for both.

I have try to talk to the people at the lab, but they don't know that either. And I don't want to go back to the doctor because I don't think she know much about this topic, plus she's only a PA. I want to seek to a specialist .I have found this link about the Herpeselect test with cross-reactivity from Focus Diagnostics but I don't understand the number. Can you help to explain to me?

Okay, lets take hsv1 out of the picture because you tested negative the first time.
Now we have hsv2, your first test was an 8 but we dont know if that included chicken pox strain. A second test came back at 2 with is indicative of a false positive.
The last test came back negative with biokit which is hsv2 specific. If you throw out the first test then your negative. If the first test was only for hsv2 at 8 and the zoster strain was included then your still negative.

You really need to find out about the first test at 8 if this included zoster herpes or not
If  you cant get that info and are still confused then take the Western Blot and put this behind you once and for all. But the evidence would say your negative for both hsv1 and 2.

Sorry that I confuse you, this is what happen
1st test on 9/27 Herpeselect EIA igg HSV 1 is 0.2 and HSV 2 is 8.0 (there is also a note from under HSV2 test said that 'Cross-reactivity with taxonomically related viruses such as CMV, NBV, VCA, and VZV is possible)  I have chicken pox vaccine when I was little, that's why I assume this might cause the high number
2nd test on 10/4 at Quest Diagnostics with HSV 2 only and the result is 2.0
3rd test on 10/5 at a specialist STDs, with Biokit  for HSV2 and it came out negative. He knows about the result of HSV2 is 8.0 but he didn't know about the new result at the time.
I have concern about the number because it jump from 8.0 - 2.0. and I have no symptoms of outbreak, I have been with the same guy for 3 years and both of us never experience any outbreak. We are aslo have oral sex and intercourse sex. Would I be infect for both HSV1 and HSV2 though?
I am very confuse right now

talk to your doctor and let us know the results, the test they is very accurate. What you need to do now is get some clear value numbers from all the tests. Even here what you posted is confusing. You say your positive at 8 for hsv1 and then you say its o.8 and then you say thats its 2.0. You need to get your number clear and straight.

The people at the lab said they can't interpret my result. I need to talk to my dr. I think they confuse as I do. They only said they used the EIA method. What should I do now?

Find out first what was the first test you did and did they include all herpes strains in the 8 value, if yes then you would be negative now

Thanks Life360 for your response. Just one last question, should I do the WB test to confirm my situation? It has been dragging on for the last 2 weeks and the worst 2 weeks of my life.

If they included all hsv,s including zoster in the 8 then the jump is possible but if you had a specific hsv2 and came back positive with a 2 and then you retested for hsv2 and come back negative then i would conclude your negative.

That's why i'm so confused. I feel that the first test is not very accurate
I have my first test order from my family doctor and was performed at the local lab
1st test 9/27 was using Herpeselect from Focus Diagonistics HSV 1 - 0.2 - negative, HSV 2 - 8.0 - positive (there is also a note from under HSV2 test said that 'Cross-reactivity with taxonomically related viruses such as CMV, NBV, VCA, and VZV is possible) - I have chickenpox vaccine when I was little, I have read a lot of info online but unsure if that the cause for a high positive result.
2nd test 10/4 from Quest Diagnostic for HSV 2 - 2.0 - positive - this test was performed at a big hospital since I want to confirmed the result, but the number is total jump from 8.0 - 2.00, is this possible?
3rd test 10/5 from Biokit for HSV 2 - negative - I performed this test at the specialist of STDs and he said (before he even know the result for the 2nd test) that I'm negative for it, he told me to come back in 102 days after my first exposure. But I haven't had any exposure. I was just doing the routine test suggested by my family doctor since I have urine infections.
Thanks for reply and helping me. I really appreciate your help.

I can't post my question properly for some reason. For Test 1: My HSV1 was negative, and my HSV 2 is 8.0 positive

I want to make it clear of what I said. I guess I was too nervous and concern, which I wasn't clear.
Test 1: 9/27: Herpeselect (from a local lab) HSV 1  8.0 (positive)
Test 2: 10/4: Quest Diagnosis for HSV2 only: HSV 2.0 (positive)
Test 3: 10/5: Biokit test HSV2: negative.
Can anyone help me interpret my test result?

It's not my typo for some reason my post just got cut off. My hsv 2 is positive at range 8.0, my hsv 1 was negative < 0.2. I have another test with Quest Lab and the result for hsv 2 is 2.0 (the lab was run on OCT 2, just got the result today. I had the biokit test done on OCT 5 which is also negative. What should I do?

yes the negative would have been 0.8 not 8.0

my mistake. your herpes select tested you for both so you did not need the biokit nor any other testing.
