How common is herpes really?

Hi there,

Yesterday i had unprotected sex with someone i've only been seeing over the past month. I had a full std screening including the herpes select test and my numbers were extremely low for both type 1 and 2 around 0.06 i believe. Anyway before i had sex with this new guy i asked him about his sexual history and he said he knows he's clean and hasn't had sex in 5 months. Maybe its my trust issues but i always have a hard time believing if someone is telling the truth. If he did have herpes how easy would it be for me to catch it with one unprotected encounter? Would i most likely show symptoms since i have no history of type 1 or type 2? I really appreciate the help as the posts from people saying they caught herpes after one night stand is scaring me, and i really should have been more careful.

Thank you

Thank you Life360,

I do have a couple more questions if that's ok….

1. I keep reading online that it takes 2-21 days for symptoms to appear, however online herpes forums most people say they got symptoms at exactly 2 weeks, so is the norm 2 weeks?

2. Is cramping/bloating in the lower abdominal a symptom of herpes?

3. My last questions is, can it be possible to get herpes on your cervix and not have any other symptoms?

Thank you

Hi the risk of contracting herpes from a one time affair where no sores were present would be close to zero risk.
