How did I get this?

I have had mouth ulcers since I was little. Was married 13 yrs now divorced. When I was married I remember being "careful" about oral sex when I had mouth ulcers.  My bf and I have been together 4 yrs and have not been as careful about oral sex when I have mouth ulcers. As far as I know, he doesn't get mouth ulcers. Sept 4 (thurs) I suspected he was dishonest w me and may have cheated. I do not know to what degree ie nothing at all, oral sex, or sex. I chalked it up to my insecurity and had sex with him that Sat. (The 6th) He performed oral and we had intercourse. By Monday (the 8th) I wasn't feeling well fluish, Tuesday (9th) thought I was getting yeast inf. and treated accordingly. Thursday-Monday I thought I was having a horrid reaction to that treatment and was at OB the following Tuesday )(16th). She agreed it was probably reaction to treatment, but tested for everything. My mind kept going back to my suspicions of the 4th. Test came back today HSV1 positive. My questions are:
1. Could I have had this for years w/o symptoms? Could they have been so mild I thought it was yeast inf?
2. Could I have given this to him w my mouth ulcers (through oral sex followed by intercourse) and he gave it to me genitally?
3. Could I have given it to him by kissing followed by him performing oral on me the night of the 6th?
4. If he did cheat on the 4th then exposed me to it on the 6th would I react that quickly and severely?
5. If we test him and he doesn't have it does that mean he didn't give it to me?
6.  If we test him and he doesn't have it could he have be a carrier but not show positive?
7. Can it only be passed to me (female) through infected male orally?

Odds are the sores/ulcers you experience in your mouth are canker sores and NOT herpes. They are not one of the same and your doctor is incorrect in stating they are both.

Herpes inside the mouth is typically very distinct and involves grouped lesions that could form a very large, irregular shape erosion in the mouth. HSV1 typically behaves outside the mouth around the lips, below the nose, and/or chin.

Also, herpes inside the mouth when present also typically can create inflamed lymph nodes along the jaw line. Again, it's not really common in the mouth and sores are usually typical in presentation and involve many.

Hope this help. I get cankers all the time and I'm currently negative for HSV1 via blood tests.

Thank you for taking time to respond. You have been a blessing in this little glimpse of Hell. I'm going to my Dr. tomorrow for more info. Going to get blood test. Not really sure why.  I'm wondering if there is something I should ask? Any test better than other?  I have read that some tests have false neg etc.or not worth it.   Bf is going to his as well. Trying to learn as much as I can. Not sure where to go from here.
Ulcers mentioned before have been regular canker sores. I got them monthly w hormones. They have been pretty extreme and an MD did give me valtrex (20 yrs ago). Don't remember for sure if  a swab test was done but I do remember him saying herpes. I was stunned & he said it wasn't a scarlet letter it was just herpes/canker sores. Anyway, I didn't continue that rx. none the less after years of fearing, but NEVER thinking it would happen, I'm here. I'm hoping its my last ob, but considering that I still have flu ish symptoms and everything else going on below, I don't  have much faith. Thank you again for your help. Not sure you understand the peace you imparted.

Well a swab positive for HSV1 makes all the difference in terms of your story.

You talk about mouth ulcers which I am thinking are things like internal bumps or sores perhaps on the inside of your cheeks or gums? There is the really strong indication here that you have not had HSV1 since your youth. If you had, then it is highly unlikely you'd end up with a genital HSV1 infection.

There is little doubt that a horrid reaction is a primary outbreak and you have just been infected by your partner's oral HSV1 infection. Something 60% or more of the population actually has. The oral sex of Sat 6 would appear the likely source given the timing of symptoms emerging a few days afterwards.

Answering your questions to fill in more gaps:
1. No, you have just been infected, I have little doubt surrounding this.
2. No, the infection can not bounce like that, you have strong immunity against infection elsewhere in your body. It is now quite conclusive that your mouth ulcers were not HSV1.
3. No not possible for the above reasons. You almost certainly did not have HSV1 previously and it can't be transferred the way you describe if you did.
4. It is virtually impossible for this to happen with him getting sores somewhere on his mouth or genitals. As you discovered, a first infection with HSV is plenty enough to send us to the doctor to ask 'what the hell is this?' This would have happened to your partner if he was infected orally or genitally most probably.
5. He will test positive for HSV1, again little doubt here.
6. If you are a carrier, then you have antibodies. There are some testing issues with HSV1 wherein the antibodies are 'missed' but that does not mean they are absent. This happens with about 1 in 10 infections. Likely though, a test for him will show positive HSV1.
7. Not quite sure of the question, but oral sex is the most common way a female obtains a genital HSV1 infection. Genital to genital HSV1 is also possible but rarely happens given genital HSV1 is rarer (as people have oral infections) and the virus is less 'active' from the genital region compared to the oral region.

Having done some research, I'm noticing that symptoms people are talking about could have been symptoms of an earlier outbreak. A couple years ago I noticed itching (rectum) and thought i mist be getting hemroids. Wondering if I have had this for a while and had mild ob.  The ob that started immed. after the Sat night we were together was very, very bad. Dr & I thought I had a bad reaction to over treatment of yeast.  Wondering about the nature of viruses. Seems like I can't get a virus from myself. Wondering how likely it is that I gave it to him and he gave it to me genitaly.  I was super stressed and would have had low immune stystem. Situation of dishonesty  topped the stress/ no sleep charts for me.

Before answering the questions, a critical piece of information is required.

Was the positive HSV1 test a swab or blood? If blood what were the numerical results?
