i will test when i reach 3 months and again when i reach 4 if i get a negative result at the 3 month mark. Thank you very much for your response and for your time.
and the burning sensation is all over my penis head. is this normal after lesions have dissapeared?
and could a blood test at 3 months be somewhat accurate. i just want to know already and the waiting is killing me. thank you once again
Thank you for your response. If this is indeed herpes could the fact that my lesions left so quickly be a sign that my other flare ups will last even less time? The lesions were bright red and i was surprised they left so quick. A np also told me that medication does not take a very noticable breakout away in 2 days. She said it would be at least 5 to 7 days. I know that everyones body is diffrent and i am sorry for taking up your time. Its just that i am full of grief and very worried.
Our immune functions are different. Your symptoms could certainly be herpes - first episodes can vary tremendously in their presentations. A number of scenarios could exist that would explain the behavior of the virus in your case, including the reason why they healed as quickly as they did.
By what you say, it's been 4 weeks since the lesions presented. Wait another 12 weeks for a more accurate result, then repeat the IgG, or go straight for the Western Blot (the best and most accurate test).
thank you for your answer and merry christmas
This has been the most troubling time for me. As i posted previously i saw lesions on my penis first and about 1 day and a half later i began doing research and found out it was prob genital herpes. I began feeling a strong burning sensation which made me go to the doctors. The lesions were gone in a total of 5 days of which i took the medication for 2 days only. Of the 3 places with lesions only one had what looked like 2 blisters surrounded by redness. They never ulcered or poped. Its been 3 weeks since the redness went away and i can still see the 2 raised bumps on the lesion place that had them. i do not know if it my head playing tricks on me but i feel an on and off burning sensation on my penis. The doctor did give me a blood test which came out negative for both herpes 1 and 2 so i know i did not have the infection before but he did not take a swab of the lesions and just gave me the medication. The lesions appeared 8 days after i had sex with a new woman. She got tested a2 days after i went to see my doctor and her results were negative. She said i am the only person she had sex with since september. I dont know her that well so i cannot rely on her answer. Is an on and off burning sensation normal for this length of time after a herpes infection in which lesions have healed? Do these sound like herpes symptoms? And what is the fastest i can go back and get a blood test with accurate results. Not being sure is driving me crazy and it is ruining my life so any knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
At this point you can seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test just to see what your status is. if it's been less than 3-4 months since you last had sex, you will need to repeat your testing again at that time.
if you have a regular partner, they too should be tested to know their own status.
would valtrex heal a newly acquired herpes infection in 2 days? no it would not.
at this point you will need to follow up on your testing to get better answers as to what is going on.

Thank you for your answer. And i asked the doctor to do a swab but he just reffered me to a dermatologist but by the time i got the appt the lesions were gone. i found it weird that he started me on medication before taking a sample. i thought he was just sure of what it was.I know herpes affects people diffrently but i just found it kinda surprising that the meds would clear it up so quickly and that the blisters never poped. But then again everyones body is diffrents so i am just confused and i just want to know for sure. Its the waiting game i hate. I guess iwill have to wait for a new sore
Hi, visual diagnoses of herpes is not accurate and sores are not red for the most part but clear liquid centers. You really need to have either a blood test or swab of a new sore before started on any medication course.
Herpes meds reduce outbreaks and aide in healing but it would not heal the next day as would take at least a week for a scab to develop, fall off and then dissappear.
Yes, it may be that a mild first infection will indicate that future recurrences will also be mild. However, there's no guarantee that this is the case - the virus does what it wants, and there are many factors that trigger a recurrence. Much will depend on the individual's immune function, periods of stress, diet, routine, time of life, etc.
I disagree with your NP. We all differ in our reactions to the medications, as well as to the different antiviral brands. Also, yes, I sometimes continue to feel prodrome even after the active lesion has healed. Take your antiviral dose until all symptoms are gone.
If an IgG test at 3 months is still a definite negative, I would be comfortable calling it accurate. If it's equivocal or even a low positive, I would repeat at the 16-week mark, and possibly even go straight for the Western Blot, since the standard IgG - the ELISA - has had issues with accuracy.
Please be aware that for all you know, you do NOT have HSV. Try not to worry until you are sure there's something to worry about!
