Is this herpes?

19 year old male here. I have suddenly been getting sores inside my mouth. I did some research and saw that they could be canker sores but I am worried it is something else. The sore is rather small and white. It hurts for a few days and then it stops and begins to go away and shrink. My groin has been really itchy lately aswell but thereis no rash or bumps of any kind down there. I have never had any type of sexual intercourse but I did kiss a girl a few months ago. I went to my doctor and she didn't find anything although no tests were conducted. She told me to gargle baking soda for the sore and gave me hydrocortisone cream for the itch but it doesn't seem to be helping the itch at all. I'm scared it could be herpes but I am thinking of going back to the doctor to get tests done to be sure. Thank you for your time.

At your age, 1 out of every 3 people you know has oral herpes. it's very common. You can have hsv1 orally and also have canker sores too - they are 2 different issues.

Thank you for your reply Grace, its very appreciated. Besides the sexual activity, I saw that you could get herpes via kissing and the girl that I kissed didn't look like she had any sores on the outside of her lips but it was in a  club and was pretty dark. I havent gotten any sores on the outside of lips or anywhere in my face and so is it safe to rule out herpes? I am going to my doctor tomorrow to get some tests done just because I'm paranoid and want to be sure I don't have it. Thanks for the help Grace.

you won't get genital herpes without having sex or receiving oral sex. if you've had none of that type of contact then you know std's aren't the cause of your symptoms!!!

itching in the genital area is commonly jock itch. topical steroids won't make it go away.

canker sores are common in the  mouth area. they aren't contagious.
