I have herpes but could this just be a rash

So I just randomly went to the doctor to get a random check-up, found out I tested positive for HSV, not sure if its 1 or 2 yet, well right after my doctor visit I noticed a red rash on the back of my penis head, It started to spread, it itched slightly here and there but not bad, never hurt, and no warts at all, just a rash and sometimes I see little red dots appear around the head. Its going on 3 weeks now, my question is I got diagnosed positive for HSV which I guess means herpes but could this rash thing be something else like a yeast infection, is it possible to have both? I'm stuck in a position where I want to get yeast infection cream for it, but then again I read its bad to put that cream on when you have herpes, or is this just a form of herpes happening?

Oh also this rash happened after using condoms a lot and not getting a chance to shower the next day, so wondering if that has something to do with it. Good luck looking for answers on the net, my advice go see a doctor quick to anybody or post your question here or somewhere else, I have found searching for answers on forums and youtube can drive a person crazy haha.

Thanks Grace for all your help I'm going to get check out again like you mentioned, the doctors came back with the results and it looks like it was just some type of rash fungus thing, could be a yeast infection. They gave me one pill to take, and told me to put monistat on it so just hoping to see results. Thank you again.

how long after the rash appeared did they send off a swab of it to the lab?   if it was done 3 weeks into things, far too late for a lesion culture if that's what they sent off to look for herpes.

many labs in the CA area that offer type specific herpes igg blood testing. sounds like perhaps your provider just didn't know which buttons to click ( or they just ordered herpes testing and their clinic personnel checked off the wrong tests if they aren't computerized to do their own ordering ).   You'll need to repeat your herpes igg blood testing with a type specific test 3 or 4 months after the last time you had sex prior to this. If you have a regular partner, they too should get tested.

WOW thanks Grace. I was for sure I had herpes, and he said I did, but yup never had an outbreak at all. I'm in California in the 94530 area code. There's a planned parenthood here maybe they can do a real test. I also wonder if there is a chance I tested positive because of this strange rash I have, which Monday I will find out what it is and how to treat it, the doctor scraped some tissue off to get it looked at, I honestly think its from the condoms I used but time will tell I have my fingers crossed. Thank you again for your responses, after spending over $100 dollars for these tests you would imagine I would get a 100% accurate results : (. Thank you again.

the testing you had done was a total waste of your time and money :(

the hsv1/2 igg  test is a combined test and since most adults have hsv1 , whether they get obvious cold sores to know it or not, it typically comes back as +.   it tells you really nothing about  your status and your provider shouldn't be ordering it as their routine herpes testing.

The herpes igm test is also combined and has a high false positive rate to boot so we never recommend it being done.

You need to repeat your testing with a type specific herpes igg blood test. if you can get your provider to tell you which lab they use, if you are in the US, odds are I can look up the exact blood test number they need to order for you from that lab.

Went to the docs today they took a sample of the rash and said its not a herpes outbreak, so its not herpes its a rash, what type of rash not sure yet, but will know soon.

my test came out HSV 1/2 Icg 31.3 High then index0.8, negative 1.09  Index Value >1.09

Hope thats what you wanted to see. Oh then it says HSV, IgM 1/2 Combination 1.35 High not sure what all this means but obviously I have HSV, but never had a break out yet. Just this rash.

ask for a copy of your test results so you can post them here for me. I just need to see the actual numeric results - ie hsv1 igg 5.6 and hsv2 igg 2.3 or whatever they are.

I had a urine and blood test, they tested everything and I came up positive for HSV-1 or HSV-2 not sure which one I have, or for how long I've had it cause I never had a breakout, last time I got tested was about 2 years ago. The rash is still there, it looks like it drys up and skin flakes off but its still red, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow I'll post what they say. So if anybody has the same type of issue maybe it could help them out, I'll ask them what natural things are good to use as well as prescription. Thanks.
