If I get oral sex from someone with cold sores (let's say no visible outbreak) will i get herpes around my groin area? Does it go away?

You can get genitial herpes from someone who has oral herpes and then performs unprotected oral sex on you.  Though the risk is low in this case.  Your outbreak will typically show up first at the site of infection but can show up anywhere in the boxer shorts region.  HSV will be with you for the rest of your life and may reoccur.

Herpes never goes away and you may get it from someone who has a cold sore. And you can still get it when there are no visible outbreaks. Be careful.
