IGM TESTING

So my boyfriend and i have been together for year

when we first were ever intimate we both got tested for hsv1 and hsv2 my doctor tested me for IGM AND IGG  and i was negative

he was tested as well and got negative results

we only saw each other up until now (  that i know of)
we had a break up last year and he was with someone else who was said to be clean

after i found this out i made him retest and so did i
my doc tested me both IGM AND IGG i was NEGATIVE on both

he was also negative

we got a routine check up this may 2013 and his test were negative and mine were as well and both test IGG AND IGM were done on me then

two weeks ago we had sex no condom like usual
then last week i gave him oral as usual
then this week i went to go give him oral i feel some rough skin on the under part of his penis
i go look and it looks like eczema and one looked same but scab over it

i was shocked and said what is this he said he had no idea it was there he said it has no pain no burning nothing
i made him go to doctor his doc said it looked like herpes he got tested and he got results back IGG TEST AND IGM positive

we don't know when he was exposed to the virus if we have both been only each other since last year he claims

and we go to all of his previous tests and his doctor had only been giving him IGM  tests for the last year 4 test about and they ALL WERE NEGATIVE HIS DOCTOR NEVER GAVE HIM A IGG

so now i am WORRIED DID HE CHEAT IS IT POSSIBLE FOR HIS IGM TO BE NEGATIVE THIS LONG IF HE GOT IT FROM THE GIRL LAST YEAR WHEN WE BROKE UP

OR DOES THIS MEAN THAT HE RECENTLY GOT IT?

I AM HOPING I DONT HAVE IT I GOT TESTED 2 WEEKS AFTER HAVING SEX WITH HIM AND IT SAYS NEGATIVE IGG AND IGM BUT IS IT POSSIBLE ITS TO EARLY TO DETECT  IT?
HE HAD NO OUTBREAK ON HIS DICK OR SYMPTOMS BUT HE MAY HAVE BEEN ABOUT TO HAVE IT SO I MAY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO THE SKIN

PLEASE HELP MEEE

When sores are present is a very infectious time. These must be avoided and usually are.

People shed the virus even when no sores are present and are infectious. Up to 70% of people who become infected with HSV2 are infected when their partner has no sores.

Yes some people never get outbreaks or very infrequent ones. If you are going to get sores at infection, then this will occur 2-10 days after infection. Only 50% of people or a little less experience sores on infection. This is main,y because people have an HSV1 infection and the antibodies fight the virus at infection.

thanks fleetwood how are you so knowledgeable in this area
makes me feel better

so u are saying the main time to transfer are while sores are on the site

and is it really true that u can get infected and never have outbreak for years

i read everywhere that most get infected and see signs 7-14 days after being in contact  with someone

There is no real way of knowing how long he has been infected.

Whether there are sores or not, there is a risk of transmission due to shedding of the virus outside of outbreaks. The risks are small, on average a 10% chance of infection for a year of sex.

The chance of an oral infection is very low, not a favored place for HSV2.

If your partner has not had an IgG test, then he has no evidence of being HSV 1 or 2 negative. You can have the virus and typically test negative on IgM, which would only return sporadically in the body. Hence most people with an established infection will test negative for IgM. Only IgG antibodies are permanently in the body.

I also assume your tests were type specific for HSV1 and HSV2? They are negative so it doesn't particularly matter, but it is better if they were. You would hence have four negative results.

Did he cheat? The test results will now not indicate whether he has or hasn't, only he can tell you that.

Does he have HSV 1 or 2 at all? Only a proper IgG antibody test type specific for HSV1 and HSV2 will tell. He may have had HSV all along for example.

The absolute best thing to do is ask this partner to get the right testing immediately. It would then be a good idea for you both to get tested in 12 weeks time to confirm (in case the IgM is a sign of recent infection).
