IgG results

I recently had a blood test, IgG, and it came back @ 3.63.  Should I have a WB to verfiy this or is this an accurate test.  This is the first test that I have taken and no outbreaks.

If he is negative no real reason for him to get one.  You should because of the possible false positive.

Thank you for your comment, Grace.  No he has not, should my partner do a WB also?

has your new partner been tested to know their hsv2 status?

if this partner is hsv2 negative and you've been with them since november, it's ok to get the herpes WB at any time. Certainly confirm your status since you have a hsv2 igg under 5 and can't recall any history of genital symptoms. the peace of mind of a 2nd test is often very worthwhile as well as with the false positive issues with the hsv2 igg tests in general, getting confirmatory testing is also useful.

The WB is accurate 4 months after your last sexual encounter.

This relationship started in Mid-November, would it still be to soon to do the WB?

April 9, 2011 would be your 12 weeks and when a reliable test could be done again.  You need that 3 months to go through.  The western blot is too early as well.  That one needs at least 4 months.

It's hard to say Cookie on the results.  I by my own prefer safer than sorry.  I would say start the relationship but if he is going to hold back because you have HSV then why be with him?  The virus isn't going to kill you its a skin condition.  I would personally not be with someone who gets upset over herpes.  Now if I had something like HIV then I could understand.  But HSV isn't anything major.

There is things working in your favor and against you.  You have no symptoms.  Some people don't know what to look for when they have an inital infection and blow it off as something else.  The other side to it is you haven't left enough time for the test to be accurate.  I would highly advise that maybe asking your previous sexual partner to get tested to know his own status.  That may help with more info.  But I can't say one way or the other.  As much as I would love to I just can't.  It would be a dis-service to you.

Well relax :-).  No freaking out just yet.  It's not allowed!  lol.

Testing was a little soon.  But here is my recommendation and I am by no means going to interpret your results.  Just kind of what I would do.

Wait for grace to tell you about your test results.  She is the best one to ask unless you want to pay to the experts.  I would wait on testing again.  I would wait until 16 weeks after your encounter (4 monts) to again see if you test positive with the type specific test.  If the number doesn't change much (say 4 or 5) in that time or goes down I would say you need a western blot.

BUT I would also say keep an eye on your post.  Bump it every now and then for grace to get a chance to reivew it.

It was around January 15, 2011, last sexual encounter.  Blood test was this past week.  Only the one test was performed as stated above.  I maybe have had 3 cold sores in my entire life and I'm 54.  This is really freaking me out!!

Thank you!

Also did you have a HSV-1 igg test done?  If so what where the results of that or have you ever had a cold sore?

I can't speak for William's training on reading those tests but gracefromhhp is the only one on these forums that is trained in reading those tests.  I would take william's advice with a grain of salt.

With that said I myself will not interpert your results.  Though grace is not going to be around much.  I would like to ask a few questions to help you best.

When was your last sexual encounter when you had the blood drawn?

You may want to talk to a local herpes support group for good herpes doctors in the area.  I would take advice from grace only on your test results.

The lab order says "Herpes Type 2 Specific Antibodies IgG" and was performed by LabCorp.
You think this is a false positive?  This is all so new to me...
