Igg results normal but igm positive

I initially had a red sore on my penis last month. Went for the Herpes test.
HSV 1 IGG < 0.91
HSV 2 IGG <0.91
HSV,IGM I/II 0.98 Equivocal 0.91 - 1.09

My doctor said I got recently infected because of the IGM results.
But reading in this forum, and Dr H says the IGM results are useless. That gave me a relief but I again see some redness and sore on my penis.
Is this really Herpes? I was planning to retest again in couple of months.

My wife had some vaginal infection and yeast infection and she has some redness and sores too in her genitals.
Her blood report is similar to mine.
Very stressed. Any advise would be helpful.

stop the acyclovir. you have no reason to be on it.

it's not likely this is a herpes issue for you both.

at this point you both can repeat your igg test results in a few months just to cover your bases but you aren't likely to be having herpes issues. odds are it's something else going on and I recommend your wife see a different gyn if hers isn't willing to look harder for the cause of her symptoms.

Hi

Thanks for responses.

I understand what you are trying to tell me. But as you said.. it messes with your head... :)
that is exactly what the primary doctor did to us. Even today the Derm. tried to tell me that IgM means I contracted the infection recently but ...

I would visit the urlogist once and get the IgG tests once again next month ... just to rule out any possibilities.

thanks a lot guys... Happy Holidays... I shall post after my visit to the urologist now...

thanks

no need for more testing. you didn't contract herpes from protected oral sex and both you and your wife are negative on your igg tests.

this is EXACTLY why we recommend not having the igm test done - it's flawed and just messes with your head especially when you have providers who aren't up to date on  herpes blood tests.

You have to pay to post on the experts forum for a reply from Dr. Hook or Dr. Handsfield.

Your IgG tests are negative. Move on from herpes.

Thanks.
I went to my Dermatalogist and he said it is something to do with hair follicle/bacterial infection and put me on Anti-Biotics.
He said it could not have been due to Herpes.

We picked up the lab results for my wife today.
HSV 1 IgG <0.91
HSV 2 IgG < 0.91
HSV , IgM I/II combination  2.00 High it says.
HSV  Culture test negative - two times.

So both of our IgM tests were positive. Mine being equivocal 0.98 and hers as High.

I know... it sounds rhetorical in saying that we ignore the IgM test results. I have read so much about that from you and Dr. H now.

But are there any chances that once we repeat the IgG tests that HSV2 might turn positive.
My dermatologist was of the opinion that IgM shows recent infection and IgG results usually take time. But he quickly brushed off saying talk to the Urologist as I am not a authority when I showed him Dr. H's printout on the IgM testing.

I am confused and unless I repeat the IgG again next month for me and my wife, I won't be in peace.
God Help me.

thanks a ton anyways. Happy Holidays to you.

it's not likely to be either.

being seen and getting a proper work up is the best course of action.

Hi Grace

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

I am seeing some boils on my body now. On shoulder and arms basically. Atleast 4 or 5 of them.
Is this shingles or Herpes zoster?

I am going to the doctor's office tomorrow. But I am really worried scared now.

thanks

Since both my IgG tests were negative in Oct. and hopefully next week when I test if they come negative... should I repeat the test after 3 or 4 months... and be confident that I do have herpes... at all...
Is any further .. yearly testing advisable...

Thanks a lot. It helps a lot.

I am going to meet my Urologist and shall request my wife to change her doctor and get reexamined all over.
Hopefully it is some yeast or vaginal infections (hair related).
And that tiny red dot ... that appeared for me ... i am hoping wont reappear...

thanks again.

I found this from doing some searches by Dr. H.

Pretty good post.

I am still going to the Urlogist and will get the blood work done again (IgG only) and reconfirm.

thanks

Thanks.

My wife is the only partner apart from those unnecessary experiences in my life.

My wife also tested negative for all the IgG tests. Her two swab tests also came back negative.

But one look at her genitals and mine, our primary physician concluded Herpes. And even started the anti-viral for my wife before the blood test.
But after our blood tests.  and IGM showing positive, she put us on antivirals.

This was around 10/5/10.. And now after a month... I don't have anything but feel I have some issue with my bladder and frequent urination. Will go to Urologist next week.
Get some more tests done.

I was requesting from Grace, should I be doing one more round of IgG tests. Just to be sure. If I really have Herpes, will it show up. How long should  I wait.

Maybe I have UTI, don't know. But something is wrong for sure.

My wife definitely has some issues. She has small lesions in her genitals and I am guessing the unprotected sex we had on 10/2/10 caused minor irritation or issues for me as well. She is going back to her OBGYN too. If we rule out Herpes then it will give us relief.

I ruled out all other STD's, was freaked out about HIV and all... but if I can rule out Herpes, then I can control my life and live with this minor issues of UTI and will work towards my family life and try to win my wife's confidence back. Untrustworthy work I did but she has been very graceful. Traits and qualities of woman. Patience and understanding and importance to family. If only we men learned to live like that.

But thanks anyways. Will post my findings next week.

Protected oral sex is not a risk for herpes transmission; you can read that definitively on the experts forum. If you have genital herpes, it's not based on those three encounters.

An IgM is pretty much worthless for diagnosing herpes. Your doctor is misinformed about herpes testing. You can also read more about why, here, and consider sharing this post with him:  http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/Confusiion-over-other-IgM-Herpes-posts/show/248394%C2%A0%C2%A0You

Did your wife test negative for HSV1 and HSV2 based on an IgG test? Obviously if she is negative and has been your only partner, you know you couldn't possibly have herpes.

I think I was paranoid with the redness. I don't have any redness or spots on.
Even the first time I had one tiny red spot.
Based on the IGM results my doctor decided I had herpes and put me on Acyclovir.

My wife's HSV1 and HSV2 results have been negative but IGM was positive.
My wife still has some sores in her genitals.  She is also going back to her OBGYN.

I am going to a Urologist next week. But my anxiety and paranoia is getting the better of me. I feel like urinating all the time.
Could it an UTI? Not sure... Just stressed out...

Please guide me:
a. when should i actually repeat the blood test. And should I ask for only the IGG test.
b. the urologist will also probably examine for any other UTI or do an urine test.
c. I did all other STD tests (HIV, RPR, Gonoria, Chlamydia along with Hepatitis).. all were negative or non reactive.

One mistake in life ... and this is result of that... just plain stressed....

One thing i forgot to mention was the OB GYN did swab test two times for my wife. One in Sept and anther one in Oct. Both came negative.

Also, is knee pain a symptoms attributed with herpes recurrence. Other than that both of us did not fever or chills or any other symptoms.

thanks for your help.

I had been to escort service and had oral sex performed. But all the times condom was used. This was 3 times in the past year.

My wife initially started having symptoms of itching,  redness with pimple like things in her vagina. Initially her GYN said - Yeast infections.
Then we had unprotected sex in the first week of Oct. I have had no lesions up until then.
Immediately 3 or 4 days later, I had one tiny red pimple on my penis.
We both went for the blood test and the IGG came back negative and IGM positive for both. The doctor put us on antiviral and things went normal.
But I have become paranoid.

Does the oral sex with the condoms also susceptible to Herpes?
Did I give Herpes to my wife and my symptoms started quite later?
Should we plan to do the blood test immediately now. It's been 5 weeks we did the initial testing?
I am confused, scared and angry with myself to be in this situation.
So many posts about IGM being useless and IGG is the only thing to consider gave me some hope. But again... I am dampened by the recurrance of the red small dot on my penis and my wife has gotten another pimple.
We plan to revisit the doctor next week.
thanks a ton.

you and your wife both need to go for further work ups. this could be any number of things going on.

if your wife is your only partner, she too needs tested for herpes to see what her status is.
