Immunoblot Tests for HSV1/2 Diagnosis

About 18 months ago, I went through a battery of STD tests after learning that my ex-wife had a number of affairs. At that time, I tested positive for HSV2 with an IgG test score of 2.01.  I recently tested again with a Quest Labs HerpeSelect IgG (test#6447) of 0.92.  Both are low scores, but why would they drop over time (never had symptoms / outbreak to this day)?

I would also like to know what the difference is between Quest Specialty Labs test# 9448 Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 & 2 IgG Abs [IB] (HerpeSelect) and Western Blot test# 34534.  To add to the confusion, I just got off the phone with Quest Labs, and they state that both test codes are now obsolete.

Please help me to direct me, so I can direct my Infectious Disease Doc, Urologist & GP accordingly.  I am so angry / frustrated.  I just want to know my actual health status.  My docs (all from a leading hospital in Chicago) say I have HSV2, but these are low scores, and I've heard that immunoblot testing is the most equivocal.

Looking forward to your response. Regards.

that result is negative if enough time has passed. enough time passed. you really don't need to still be worrying that you have herpes.

Thanks for your response, Grace.  However, I do not understand what you mean when you write "a clear positive." My 2nd IgG test was the lower score of 0.92; still equivocal/uncertain.  Still confused at how the two IgG scores could vary so much from the same person over time - change in antibody levels?

Also, have you or anyone out there heard of Quest Specialty Labs test# 9448 (an immunoblot-format test - perhaps like the WB)?  I only ask the question again as you did not respond to it.

Grace - thanks again for the time you put into your work here.  I know a lot of people benefit from it.

quest no longer offers the WB blood test. how to get one is listed in our read before posting post on the forum if you've forgotten from our previous discussion.

you really don't need the WB, your 2nd test was a clear positive that confirmed that your first low positive was indeed a false positive.
