Ok thank you so much. i learned more form this site than I did from the nurse practitioner. I will update when I have new results. Thank you so much.
they have the same false positive issues as the regular herpeselect igg test does which is why a positive needs confirmed with additional testing.
How reliable are the immunoblot tests? And I will Thank you?
bv is very common in sexually active females. it unfortunately makes you more vulnerable to getting infected with other std's.
I'm guessing the lab they use does the immunoblot which only gives a + or -. I'd seek out repeat testing elsewhere or even wait 4 months post encounter and seek out a herpes WB ( western blot ) blood test to confirm your status.
Thank you for your feedback. I went back and inquired about the test that was performed and I feel very unsteady about the information they gave me. She said it was an IgG antibody test and it just says positive or negative. She doesn't believe I have to "wait" until 3 months after last sexual contact, but if it will make me feel better to do a repeat they will is what she told me. The thing is, my last partner and I only had sex 3 times since the end of Jan. It was a long distance relationship. And we had dated last year from may to August. Again long distance. had sex every weekend. So maybe 12 - 20 times. Anyway. What are the chances of contracting HSV 2 when no outbreaks are present in maybe 20 sex sessions?? I also tested positive for gonorrhea and chlamydia and was also positive for BV which was probably because of the GC/chlam. Do those results in anyway affect HSV results. My white cell count must've been HIGH! Anyway. If you can answer any of these questions I would appreciate it. i am thinking about getting a second opinion because this woman doesn't seem to know a lot. I am not in anyway in denial. if it is pos then I will deal with it. But i feel like there haven't been enough signs or symptoms to make this a true positive. And her information is so vague to the disease that I'm even more unsure.
yes your testing was too early. make sure you are getting type specific testing done 3 months after the last time you had sex to properly cover your bases.
some labs only report with a + or a - result. some tests also only come back as a + or a -. the numeric results are helpful to see if you are in the potentially false positive range and need additional testing done or not. since you have 2 months yet until you can retest, you have some time to get in touch with your provider to see if they can figure out what testing was done to see if you want this same testing repeated or if you need to seek out different testing. wait until after the holiday and follow up on it to try to get better answers about the test your clinic offers.
