Initial Outbreak of Herpes HSV2

I have just been diagnosed with HSV-2 11 days ago, 12 days ago was the first blister I saw on my penis. My question is that when bathing is it ok to use the same washcloth everyday? I wash my body normally with the cloth and then my genital area last, I hand wash the cloth after each time I use it. When I dry off I just use paper towels to dry off the genital area. Everything seems to go just well but blisters will clear and then another one would show maybe a day or so later is this normal for more to show after the first initial blisters have cleared up or am I spreading it when washing? Thanks in advance.

Grace,

Thanks for the reply and yes I have always used a seperate wash cloth for my face. The doctors did not give me any antiviral meds because they said it had been passed 72 hours since I first had symtoms wasnt a blister but they said were herpes like symptoms and to just ride it out and if it got worse then to let them know. They did give me lab papers to go get tested but as far as them doing any test theirselves no they just looked at it and immediatly diagnosed me with HSV2. I havent gotten tested yet I will go this weekend.

Yes you can use the same wash cloth.  Just wash your genitals off last with it. when it dries, the virus is dead and no longer an issue the next time you pick it up to use it. personally I always use a separate cloth for my face than my body.

did they give you herpes antivirals for your lesions? If so what and what dose?

Did they do testing?

in my experience using a washcloth etc will not spread the initial outbreak. herpes cannot be contracted or spread on things like towels etc, there has to be direct contact with the herpes sores. therefore what you're doing is fine and i would not worry about spreading it. my only advice, and im not an expert, but have had herpes now for 3 years, is to start famvir or an equivalent as soon as you feel tingling or think you are going to have an outbreak. this cuts the time you suffer from sores in half. hope this helps.
