Loose stools and a rash on mouth. What could it be?
Starting Sunday 9-25-16, I had a burning sensation on my lower lip soon after my husband and I got done eating. Monday evening my lip got really red, swollen, tender. Tuesday morning I started having loose stools eventually turning in to diarrhea. My stools since have still been loose, but foul smelling. I've had the same symptoms for the past 12 days. Both of my lips are swollen and tender, lower lip the most. With what looks like a rash. Urgent care said I had an allergic reaction, but the doctor I have been seeing thinks its a primary oral herpes outbreak. I haven't had any blistering, but a whitish bump appeared behind my upper lip 2 days ago. No pain in it, but its there. I'm fatigued and just really want to know what's going on. Any help would be appreciated.
Have your Dr swab it and do a pcr test.

It will pick up hsv if that's what is going on
I just did a blood test for it, but haven't gotten the results back yet. Is that not as reliable?
A blood test looks for antibodies to combat the virus, not the virus itself. It takes time to build the antibodies. Some folks it takes 3-4 months.
If this was a primary outbreak then the chances are you wouldn't have antibodies yet.

Well he started me on famvir yesterday. The only thing its doing to me is making me nauseous and have more diarrhea. Is this normal?
Side effects can happen on any medication. I would call the Dr's office tomorrow and tell them what's going on.
Also. I am inclined to believe the urgent cares diagnosis. Has the rash spawned into fluid filled blister type lesions.
No blisters but my lips will feel like they've been burned. They'll chap up then peel off and the burning starts all over again. I've had a steroid shot, but that didn't take care of it. Are loose bowels for this long, common of an allergic reaction?
There are certain parts of my lip that when the skin peels off, it looks almost like a lesion. But no blood or fluid comes out.
Loose stool is not a symptom of hsv and what you describe sounds nothing like a cold sore. I would go back to a Dr or dermatologist
My husband wants me to finish this anti viral first to see if it helps. Should I? I don't have insurance yet. So money is a little bit of an issue.
It won't hurt. That being said hsv doesn't shed layers of skin like you describe. Keep me posted on your progress
I didn't think it was hsv, but wanted to be sure. I hate taking these meds, because i know they arent making me better. I'm perplexed as to why a steroid shot hasn't helped though. I just don't know what to do really.
