JUST WANT TO GET A LITTLE PEACE OF MIND BEFORE I GO TO A MENTAL HOSPITAL.

Hello Doctor,

I've been on this forum SEVERAL times due to some stupid decisions on my part but this may be a very unique case and I'm hoping you can ***** my situation and provide useful advice and/or info.  I have always had HSV1 and I've tested positive for it when I do routine STD screenings.  HOWEVER, today I gave my bf unprotected oral sex while I had a small healed herpes sore on my upper lip.  The sore scabbed and the scab came off today so you see a red open area that burns when I lick it.  Basically, my sore healed but the scab came off so I'm not sure if that would still be considered an "active outbreak".  After this encounter, my bf and I had PROTECTED sex twice for and my questions are the following:

1)  Can I still transmit the virus to his genitals when the sore had already scabbed and it now just resembled an open cut?  Is this still still considered an "active outbreak"

2) In case I did INFECT him can this HSV1 infection be passed on to me genitally even with a condom on?

3)  Should I be worried about this exposure?  I've read threads from Dr. HHH where he states that the body builds immunity once you have been infected with HSV1 and it's highly unlikely to get infected elsewhere in the body due to the body's antibodies towards the virus.

4)  Should I have my bf tested?  Was the risk high on both of our ends?

Your input is greatly appreciated!

Its difficult to say for certain, but it could certainly still be infectious (and also inbetween cold sore)

I've read on the dermatology forum that once the cold sure is dried and scabbing it's not contagious or not as contagious as when it's going through the 'weeping" stage.

Thanks!  one last question:  How contagious is a herpes cold sure once it's scabbing or once the scab comes off?

1.  Yes, you can transmit virus from your mouth to his genitals by giving him oral sex even if there is no sore present.  This can happen both at times surrounding outbreaks and even when no outbreak has occurred.
2.  It is very unlikely, since you already have HVS 1, that you would get it at a new location.  Condoms certainly reduce that risk a well.
3.  I agree with Hunter, for sure.
4.  Yes, your boyfriend should be tested for HSV 1 and 2.  He may already have HSV 1 infection, and if he does, then you can stop worrying about this.  He may also have HSV 2 and not even know it.  You would want to know that for sure!

You guys need more information, for sure.  I hope he will follow through with testing.  If he is negative for HSV 1 and 2, you might want to consider taking daily antiviral therapy to reduce the risk of infecting him.
