Hi Secondhanceplz
I am sorry for a late reply but I am still not good.
How are you feeling?
Pettal
Hey pettal...
Maybe I can commiserate with you -- with what I've been calling the mystery illness. I had a romantic encounter around the holidays.. just kissing and unprotected oral... I'm suspicious I got HSV1...but I've been to 2 clinics, 3 doctors, and an infectious disease doctor and no one can tell me what it is. It;s been almost 6 weeks and no treatment or diagnosis yet!!!!!
It all started with a mild rash 'down there', leg pain, numbness/itching/tingling. I woke up with panic attacks and sweating many times. Then the itching/numbness spread to my arm and face. I had the flu like symptoms with a sore red throat and runny nose and my body was stiff. I just recently got what seems like a sinus infection. Ringing in my ears and pain behind my eyes. I did get a little red blister in my inner eye lid and what seemed to be a painful cut on my inner lip. All of these symptoms have been on my left side!
If this is HSV1, I have read that it can cause meningitis in 11% of adults if it's their first case of genital and radiculitis of the arms/legs because it can cause nerve irritation. That explains the fatigue and itching. I've read too, that for most adults, oral herpes might just show up as a sore throat or irritated gums. It can also cause PID!
I've been doing a crap load of reading, and it seems that the symptoms of HSV can be far and wide, but doctors and people only know to look for clinical manifestations of this, like ***** blisters. Most people think this thing is an innocent little skin infection. It's actually a nervous system infection.
I don't know how you would get a test of your mouth. Supposedly you can get a DNA/PCR test of your saliva, but it sounds like something they give people who are part of research studies... And as far a blood tests go, they say to wait 3 months for your body to make antibodies to the virus. However, I've read that they are inaccurate and some people take years to make enough antibodies to show up on a blood test.
Right now I feel like I'm just in a bad dream. But I hope there's some reassurance that your not the only one out there with really weird symptoms.
As I said in my previous post my gp said they cannot do any testing there!
She did not offer to refer me anywhere else!!
Looks like I will never know.
I am feeling really uncomfortable down there today! Ouch...........!
I wish ......................................... :-(
the std clinic is not appropriate for mouth, nose and throat issues. you should be seeing a GP or even an ENT specialist for those issues.
I have made another appointment at the std clinic...... I am hoping if I ask nicely that they will swab my mouth, throat and nose as I would really like to know what's going on in there!?!
Sorry if I am going over old ground but If I have Hsv1 down below and my mouth is more sore than not..... does that indicate that I have it there too?
I am worried about passinate kissing and oral sex? Could I pass it on that way?
Plus I want to see if the thrush has cleared up and there is nothing else lurking there with the herpes blisters!!!!
hopefully once you get the vaginitis all cleared up and stays cleared up, things will feel better.
I was tested was swabed but it came back with thrush which I treated last week!!
Will these things ever go away it's now been over six weeks!!!???
Getting me down now!!
if you had a + lesion culture for hsv1, no reason for more herpes blood testing.
have you been back to be tested for bv again?
The genital herpes are still alive, kicking and spreading!! But I have been put back on the antivirals for that for another 5 day. Back for a review in a few weeks.
The oral ulcers and sore mouth only lasted for 4 days??!! So That's why I wanted a test to see what it might have been. The doctor told me today that they did not have the swabs at the surgury to do any of this testing!!
I also asked for an Elisa blood test to which she also repied that she could not do one of those either........ Confused!!??
oral herpes would not cause symptoms for 48 days.
see an ENT specialist or a dermatologist at this point for the oral issues, not std clinics.
we can't recommend treatments since you don't know yet what is causing your symptoms.
why don't you go to an std clinic and get them to swab the genital blisters?
I seem to be losing a constant battle against this thing!
I never in my dreams thought I would ever get!!
Lots more blisters down there now and spreading!! Sore throat returning tonight ....... Not sure how much more I can take both mentally and phyically!! Soooo depressed!!
Back to my gp tomorrow I hope she can help?!
Is there anything I can try creams, lotions anthing??
I'm desperate!!
OMG!!
It's been 48 days now since my first symptoms are they ever going to end??!!
I went back as I said I would to both an emergency gp and the std clinic! back on the 18th. At this point I was still having lots of symptoms cough... sore throat, sore mouth ulcers inside lips and a very sore mouth!!
Not my usual gp she listened to my chest and said no pnumonia yet!! looked at my ulcers and said they were not hvs?? she also looked at my throat and said I had a virus.... I know that!! gave me some cream for ulcers and said come back in 2 weeks!! No swabs taken!
Went to STD clinic in the afternoon the doctor was shocked that she had not spotted that I had Hsv when I went and saw her last ...... two days after I was swabed at another clinic and told it did not look like herpes too!!
Hence I went to this clinic as I was still in soooooo much pain!!
I asked there for a swab on my mouth ulcers but they said they only dealt with the down below area!! :-(
But I did get my blood taken again for Hiv again this was 39 days after the event the results came back ok. They said that it was usually good enough after 4 weeks....... but I will retest in March.
I did ask for a Hsv blood test but they would not give me one yet again. Why would this be?
going to be seen again is the best course of action. if they suspect herpes ( which you wouldn't just now be getting symptoms orally like this ), make sure they prove it with a culture.
Day 2 off of meds
My mouth is now quite sore and it looks like I have a couple of sores just inside my lips if I pout and look in the mirror. The roof of my mouth and tongue are not feeling great either!! Plus I still have this sore throat!!
Could I have it in both places??
I am going to try and get an emergency appointment tomorrow! :-(
There is also the sex issue if I was ever to find someone who wanted to have sex with me!!??!!
I thought daily suppressive therapy was used to help stop transmission of the virus?
I saw my GP on Tuesday and she said my chest was clear ect..........
Could I have hsv1 both orally and genitally?
Could this be the reason why I have been feeling so bad?
Especially as I had the tingling feeling all over my body and not just in my lower regions.
What sort of tests would I need to find this out?
Where would be the best place to go? My GP or the STI clinic?
Sorry for going on and on!!!!!!
As always a big thanks
most folks who have hsv1 genitally don't get enough bang for their buck so to say to make it worth going on daily suppressive therapy. hsv1 genitally on average doesn't reoccur very often and doesn't shed much.
return to your provider this week for further evaluation of any new symptoms. sounds like you caught an upper respiratory infection on top of the herpes :(
Evening of day 4 on meds
First symptoms showed over 31 days ago now!!
Not sure how much more of this I can take!
Sooooo sore down below and my sore throat has returned again! The flu symptoms will probably be next............... I am not sure if my body can take much more let alone my mind!
Does anyone have any Idea what's going on?? Or ever felt this bad??
Morning Grace
Day 4 of meds.......
Woke up this morning sticky, red eyes I forgot to mention I had a problem with these too. Is there any need for corncern?
As my flu symptoms now seem to have subsided my brain has now kicked in. Which is not good for me I have gone from shocked causing a mind mumbing phenomenon to OMG...... I'm so scared!!
Is this
Thanks Grace
All this info is so helpful.
I have decided to try not to think to much of who how and when now!!
I am telling current partners to get tested. also had an HIV test before Xmas which was negative will March be a good time for a retest?
Can I also go for anymore tests find out if I have it orally too for example?
I now want to concentrate on me!
Day 3 of my meds today and feeling a bit better today no flu symptoms since this morning.Plus the burning and tingling all over my body seems to have settled.
I am still very sore all over down there bum included and not sure if I have a uti brewing!!! What ever next!!!??
Can you also tell me if suppressive therapy is a good idea as I am worried what to do when I finish my treatment on Sunday ......... What if I still have sores etc?
I don't feel like it now but what when I want to have sex again!
Precautions and any extra tips?
Awaiting your reply again.
most people who have herpes orally don't get obvious symptoms to know it.
most folks who have genital herpes aren't aware of it either.
you might never figure out the when and from whom part of all of this. what is important is knowing what you have, where you have it and your current partners status so you can make educated decisions about what precautions to take together for sexual contact.
Thanks Grace
Got there in the end!
More questions for you ...........
So could someone carry or have Hvs genitally or orally and never have any symptoms?? It does not sound feasible to me.
They would be silent assassins!! Is this possible????
What are your views on transmission times?? Days? weeks? months? years??
Was it the last person you slept with as the symptoms showed up 4 days later?
If someone who has never had any Hvs1 symptoms went for blood test.
After finding out someone they slept with now did. What sort of results would they be likely to get?
I will get my head round this eventually!!
yes they could have it genitally and not realize it and transmit it to you.
