Still unsure

So I have visited my doctor twice now.

I have had this itchiness in my groin area that comes and goes and a few days after the itchiness starts a small cut/sore appears on my penis shaft. Not painful, just itchy, and it usually goes away in a few days.

I have a new doctor, and he said he didn't think it was herpes, same as my previous doctor said, and he prescribed me a cream, same as my last doctor did.

He said It doesn't look like herpes and since it's not painful, he didn't think it was herpes. However i asked to get tested anyways, should have the results back in about a week, (the waiting stinks).

I was a bit confused where he said herpes is painful, because I thought that it may be painful for some people and not others. Can anyone give me some insight on this.

Also it tends to be a single sore, not a cluster.

He did mention that if it keeps reoccurring in the same spot then it may be herpes, but he was still pretty sure it isn't herpes. When it happens it hasn't ALWAYS been in the same spot but it has reoccurred in the same spot at times but not always, sometimes it appears in the same area but not always the same spot. Sometimes it's not in the area where it last occured at all. But to be honest never really paid attention to the location, so now I'm a bit nervous that it could be reocurring in the same spot.

The cream he has given me, has already reduced the sore and the itchiness has gone away, so that gives me some relief that it may not be herpes, but again, waiting for the results.

The cream was some sort of steroid cream I believe he said, not sure of the name off hand.

Any insights would be great. Thanks

we've discussed this in your prior post on this back in november.

I know it's hard to wait but at this point, waiting for your results is the best you can do as far as herpes testing. when you get your results, ask them to read them to you, write them down and post them here in this post - e.g. hsv1 igg .87 and hsv2 igg .33 or whatever they are.

if this continues to be an issue with recurrences, be sure to follow up with a dermatologist to try to get a better idea of what is going on.

I've only had one outbreak and it's been both painful and itchy. The pain has woken me up at night. For me it feels like shooting nerve pain and dull pain as well from it just being raw down there. My dr said he almost always perscribes pain meds for ppl having outbreaks. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Hi Mary,

Sorry to be intrusive but could you describe the pain. Is it painful during every outbreak?

Just want to make sure I'm not confusing "itchy" for painful.

Thanks
