Confusing Herpes test results

I had a questionsble contact with a female in December of 2007.  In April of 2008 I had an IGG test done through an online company called Request a test, (www.requestatest.com).  HSV1 was positive and my HSV2 score was 2.06.  I had them retest in February of 2009 and it was HSV1 Positive and HSV2 at 1.39.  I had what I thought were Genital Herpes symptoms so I went to an STD clinic here in Portland, OR, (Westover Heights Clinic).  They examined me and said that what I had down there was deffinatly not Herpes but rather contact dermatitis.  They retested me for HSV1 and 2 using IGG test and it came back at HSV1 positive and HSV2 negative at 0.66.  What do I believe?

I'm sorry, I don't know what's going on there.  In general, if your symptoms are constant, then they aren't related to herpes - herpes is an intermittent problem, not a continuous one.  I think if you are continuing to have these problems, you may wish to set up an appointment with a dermatologist (skin specialist) to have them look the sunburn appearance of your penis.

Terri,
I still have this burning problem.  It looks like a sunburn on the head of my penis it burns and my penis aches.  There is no discharge and no lesions.  There tiny pin ***** bumps after sex but they go away within a week.  This feeling has been present for more than 3 months now and I am at my witts end.  Phsycologically I am a mess.   My GP isn't any help either.  Have you seen something like this before?

Teri,
Thank you so much for your answer.  I will take your word for it.  Thank God for some piece of mind.  Thanks again.  And by the way, everyone at your clinic is very kind, comforting and understanding.  Thank you for all you do!

Teri,  I didn't know the expert was from the same clinic I went to.  That is proof that I went to see the best people.  If you say I should just let it go, I will.  Please let me know what you think.

I think you are very likely to be uninfected with HSV 2, based on these lab tests.  You had two low positive results for HSV 2 (which can be false positive) and then a negative result.  If you had been truly positive, I would have expected the result at my clinic to be higher than the other two.  But I do understand that the low positives worried you, they would anyone.  I think you can let it go, but given your history, you might feel better getting a herpes western blot test done. You can do this at my clinic - we send it up to the University of Washington.   If it is positive for HSV 1 and negative for HSV 2, then I think you can put the whole thing behind you.  I think it is also possible to just skip that if you can do that without continuing to wonder.
