no your oral hsv1 won't be detected on a pap test.

odds are neither nor your hubby have ever been tested for herpes before. both of you getting type specific herpes igg blood tests will give you more answers.

I have been with the same person for 8 years.. am gonna have to seek out another dr to get a blood test done. The Dr I have been going to for years doesn't feel like i need it. i think it was a week maybe prior to the test that we had sex. I understand the pap test aren't always accurate. I always have annual blood tests done that screens for Std's. I just had one recently. and it came back fine. Not sure the exact type of tests that they do, but i guess i will have to get the igg blood test. The bump i have doesn't look like a blister at all. It almost feels like a small pea. And its almost hard. No crusting going on at all. I know that I have had cold sores in the past. Especially if i get sunburned. So I am guessing I probably have HSV 1. Can this show up in my pap?? And I am almost certain that my husband has had cold sores before to.. Maybe once or twice since we have been together.

As was already said, testing for herpes with pap tests isn't always the  most accurate. at this point you should follow up with a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your status is. when had you last had sex prior to your pap test?

if you have a regular partner, they too should pursue a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what their status is.

Your itchiness may be psychosomatic.

Best thing to do for peace of mind is go in ASAP & get your bump swabbed & also take a blood test (IgG only -- not IgM).

yes thats exactly what it said.. '' abnormal because of cells suggestive of HSV.  Dont really understand what it means. But I cant stop thinking about it. The doc just said come back in 6 months to repeat the pap and didnt suggest a blood test or anything..the doc didnt say i have it but he didnt say i dont have it.  I didnt have any fever or rash or anything.. now i feel like my whole body itches.. is it just my mind? i got this done almost two months ago and i have what i believe to be a bump down there now.. its a bit itchy but hardly noticeable.. could this be what this is. or maybe just a yeast infection.. i did take antibiotics sometime recently because i had a cold and i noticed after i got itchy afterwards. i am scared to have sex.. not even protected sex...i dont know if i should just wait to go back in the 6 months as they suggested..

PAPs are unreliable when it comes to diagnosing herpes.  Did it come back abnormal because of cells suggestive of HSV?

If you are concerned about your HSV status, you can get a IgG blood test such as the Herpeselect or Captia.  They are most accurate 3 months after last sexual exposure.
