New 'generic brand' of valtrex, is it the same???help
Hi there I have been hsv2 + for about a year now. I have always been taking valtrex 500mg once a day. Today I got my boyfriend to pick up a new batch of pills as I was sick and he came home with a new generic brand of valtrex. This kind of mad me mad as I have no idea if they are the same or not and I thought i should have a choice to switch not just be switched over. My new bottle says CPL Pms-Valacyclovir 500mg instead of CPL valtrex valacyclovir HCI 500mg. The guy at the drug place told my boyfriend that it was suppose to be the same and that it was only $14. He said that valtrex is no $50 for a fill now that there is a generic brand. He said that it should work the same and you take it the same, but he said if I notice I am getting an outbreak that I need to talk to my doc about going back on the other valtrex and see if I can get it cheaper. This has thrown me for a loop as I am scared that it wont work the same or that I will get a small break out that I wont notice and infect my boyfriend. I am just not sure about it too as i was never told of a new one coming out or even heard of it. Can you please let me know if it is just as good as the old valtrex. I am really close to making an app to go back on the other stuff. please help.
Yes I am in alberta canada. How come just canada and india are allowing the generic brand?? I seen on the net that valtrex wasn't allowing any generic remake till the year 2009 sometime, so this had me confused on why the drug place gave them to me. I trust them that it goes through testing and stuff like that, I just didnt know if it was going to do the same work. For example I looked at it as coke cola vs no name or buckleys med vs safeway no name. They both have the same stuff but they both are just a little different in taste and how fast it works. As long as I dont get an outbreak I will be happy. It is just a little weird as it is a new drug and the old one worked great(have not had an ob in a year besides my first two ob) so I didnt know if I could trust it or not. HSV is just not something I want to pass on to my boyfriend.
generic medications have the same active ingredients in as the name brand does. They may contain different inactive ingredients though like colours and binders and such. They go thru testing to prove that they are just as effective. Canada is the only country besides india that is offering generic valtrex at this time hence why I asked.
