Not understanding the numbers

I just got my results back from the health department for herpes simplex virus 1 & 2.
HSV-2 IgG is >5
HSV-1 LgG is >5
Then reason I got tested was because my boyfriend of almost a year keep getting scabs on his penis. They didn't look like the pictures you google, so I really didn't do much of anything as far as protection. The scabs on him keep coming back, so I googled female symptoms and boom....I have been feeling like a have the flu for over 6 weeks, I have been getting lots of headaches, my glands were swollen, I had some pressure in my abdomen but no visual sores.
After getting my results, the health department didn't discuss treatment, didn't explain the results, pretty much didn't do anything but show me pictures of infected penises. I'm very confused, nervous, stressed to the max and do not know what I'm supposed to do next. Please point me in the proper direction. Thank u, Robyn

Explain that genital herpes is only spread by sexual contact and touching is not any risk. Since most people have oral hsv1, your daughter in law may already have it and if so, she would be more at risk of passing it to the grandson by kissing. Education is the answer.

My daughter in law doesn't want me around my grandson now. How do I explain to her that I'm not going to infect him?

If youve never had an outbreak you dont need treatment. As a back up to his blood test, it would be best to have his scabs swabbed to confirm they are infact herpes.

Maybe a year but it hard to say as could be 3 months also but not sooner than 3 months in my opinion as that the window period for a positive to show up.
If you could post  your test results here so i can take a better look at it to make sure it was the right test.

How long is "quite some time"? I have been with my boyfriend for a year and he's the one with the scabs. Are they related? He hasn't gotten tested yet? And yes, he is going to get tested tomorrow.

Hi, this report says your number value for both hsv1 and hsv2 are above 5 meaning your positive for both. Most labs stop at 5 so the numbers are most likley higher. Any number that comes up 3.5 or below would be considered a false positive in need of re-testing but in your case, you are well over the 3.5 it indicates positive for both hsv1 (which is most likely oral from childhood) and hsv2 is all most certainly genital.

Since these numbers are quite high, it would indicate its not a recent infection but that youve had it for quite some time so the flu like symptoms may not be related.
