I have to say I do have friends with HSV 1. My Ex has type 2. Did not know until a couple of months ago when she had a sore, general tenderness down there, always passed off as UTI by Dr. untill she specifically tested. GHSV2 was the result since only antibodies came back for type 2. No previous sexual partners for years other then me and a guy after that..nothing for 4-5 years after. No symptoms. If she had any she told me she didn't know since they were so light or non-existent. Terri is totally right. That this can be symptomless for years or after one or 2 outbreaks.
If your hubby or you had it I wonder if either one of you transmitted it soon after meeting each other or this occured further down the relationship and it was just luck that you did not catch it before.
Thank you for the response. Being under the Canadian medical system I found it confusing recieving contradictory anwsers from doctors. Some even say no realiable HSV tests exists (asked origionally for my wife). It irritates me to no end. Arguing the opposite does not end well.
No, herpes testing is not part of a pap smear
Terri
I am sorry but I have read the conversation and my one question was do Gyno/Obset test for HSV1-2 durring a PAP smear? I am curious if HSV is standard practice or if you have to specifically ask the Dr. for the test? This question is for both Terri and Lier. Thank you.
Yes, you are both positive for HSV 2 infection by the test results that you've posted here. And definitely, you could have both been infected for years and didn't know it. You can ask, but I doubt you were tested in pregnancy.
Terri
That is correct, they were two separate tests done on me, both with the same result > 5,...
So based off these results, I have HSV 2 also?
Yes We have had other partners about 15 years ago.
So your saying one of us could of had this from before without A SINGLE outbreak until 6 months after he was unfaithful? It just seems unlikley, but I guess possible.
So doing a HSV 2 Antibody test on him is not necessary?
I will check with my OB to see if they tested me for herpes when I was pregnant with my 1st child, thank you; See what the results were 4 years ago.
J
His test separates HSV 1 and 2 - he has HSV 2, but I'm not seeing where your test separates the two , Here is what I believe you said about your own test results
Mine Were:
IGG Herpesselect 1 & 2 = > 5.00
EIA Value: Negative - No HSV 1 or HSV-2 IGG Anitbody detected
EIA Value Equivocal: Positive - HSV-1 or HSV-2 IGG antibody detected.
Perhaps what you are saying is that there are separate tests for both HSV 1 and HSV 2, and they are both >5?
If that's the case, and his is also positive for HSV 2, as it is, then how do you know one of you didn't get this years ago, and transmitted it to the other? You never did answer my question about if you have either had other partners? If you have, then you could easily have infected your husband if you were infected first, or the reverse. This may have nothing to do his other partner. You could ask you OB if they ever tested you for herpes while you were pregnant or any other time.
Terri
I looked at my results again and they show as follows:
Herpes Simplex Type 1. > 5
Herpes Simplex Type 2. > 5
EIA Value:
1.10. Positive - HSV-1 or HSV-2 IGG
Antibody detected
Could you explain to me what my results mean?
Thank you,
J
Thank you for your honesty.
You asked if my husband has had an
HSV -2 Antibody test?; Is this a different test than the one I gave you info on previously;
[Herpesselect-2 IGG (focus) 7.2]result for my husband?
You said previously that this test proved that he was HSV 2 positive; what's the purpose of the HSV 2 Anitbody test? Believe me I would love for him Not to have HSV 2.
Just a little confused about his tests & the one you mentioned.
again, thank you for your help
J
Yes, herpes can be transmitted through genital to genital rubbing without any penile penetration. However, if you have both had other partners in your lifetimes, I think it is far more likely that one of you contracted herpes years ago. You can have herpes for 50 years and never have a recognized outbreak until something changes in the immune response OR one becomes more aware of genital symptoms if there is a risky sexual experience, as in your situation. Unfortunately, there is no way to know exactly wha's going on here. However, if your husband gets antibody tested, and he is negative for HSV 2, then he did not infect you. Again, has your husband had an HSV 2 antibody test? If no, he should be.
Terri
I appreciate your honesty; I do however have one more question for you: My husband has admitted to this girl sitting on top of him rubbing on him (skin-to-skin) contact - minimal but happened.
Is it possible to get HSV-2 simply by genital-genital skin to skin contact without inserting his penis?
Please again, be brutally honest with me.
And yes we have had other partners. But We have been together for 13 years & never did an outbreak of any sort occur until about 6 months AFTER his encounter.
Thank you
J. Wright
OK, the test that you had, so far as I can tell, has no separate value for HSV 2 and HSV 1. Are you sure you are posting the results correctly? His combined test was positive, then a separate test was done for HSV 2 which was positive.
I will be brutally honest - If he only received oral sex, then it is highly unlikely that he contracted HSV 2 in this way.
Have either of you ever had sex in your lives with anyone else?
Terri
I was pregnant with our 2nd child & I had gotten another sore in my genital area & finally asked my Dr. About it. They did a blood anitbody test. And Yes I had had a sore or two before & a cod sore on my mouth too. None of the sore's appeared on me nor my husband until after he cheated.
I asked my husband if he'd been with anyone else when this hsv came up & that is when I found out that 2 years prior when our 1st child was 9 months old, he had cheated.
I had him tested & myself. The copy of the results that I have for both of us say:
My Husbands:
IGG for Herpesselect 1& 2 = 7.7
IGG for Herpesselect -2 = 7.2
Mine Were:
IGG Herpesselect 1 & 2 = > 5.00
EIA Value: Negative - No HSV 1 or HSV-2 IGG Anitbody detected
EIA Value Equivocal: Positive - HSV-1 or HSV-2 IGG antibody detected.
Some of these tests are giberish to me, your clarification would be great.
And please do be brutally honest with weather my husband actually had to of had sex with this girl to contract HSV-2. I just really would like to know the truth. We have been dealing with this for the past year in counciling but I'm not sure that He has been totally honest with me & I deserve the truth in all this.
Thank you,
J
Getting HSV 2 by receiving oral sex is very rare indeed.
Can we step back and minute and I'll ask you a few questions?
How was the diagnosis of HSV 1 and 2 made, through a blood antibody test or a swab test from a sore? Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip? If yes, that's HSV 1. Have you ever in your life had a different sexual partner? If yes, you could have had herpes for many years and not known it. 90% of those infected with HSV 2 have no idea they are infected and many have no symptoms at all. What was the numeric value of your HSV 2 antibody test, if that was the test that was done? If you don't know, could you get a copy and write to me about it? When the value is between 1.1 and 3.5, there are sometimes a few false positives in that low positive range. Lets make sure you really are infected by checking that index value, OK?
I know you are upset and angry, no one would blame you, but lets first sort out that everything truly is as you think it is.
Terri
