HSV1 In the genitals

Hi
I wanted to know where I could find some sound information on genital hsv1. I wanted to know should I treat it the same as hsv2 and what are the transmission facts like. My biggest fear is passing it to someone else I may meet. And also should I be on valtrex or anything like that. I have had genial hsv1 for about three months now and havent had any outbreaks and I read a lot of contradicting facts. Im just looking for some solid facts to give my mind a little break.

How do you know you have genial[sic] HSV1 if you haven't had any outbreaks?

I'm assuming she hasn't had any obs since her first one.

Ghsv1 sheds a lot less than ghsv2, and is rarely infectious, as long as you avoid sex during an ob.

Some people choose to go on suppression, but that's really more for peace of mind.  If you get to a time where you seem to have a lot of obs, then you might consider daily valtrex or acyclovir.

50% of folks with ghsv1 won't ever have another ob, so try to not sit and wait for one, ok?

This may not be correct that HSV 1 does not have much ob. I have one ob every month. I have done 3 blood work and all three have HSV1 + and 2 negative.  It depends on individual body system. I hardly get sick but i have ob once a month but its only one blister a time. I am not on surpression meds. Maybe with meds i will have no ob.

Typically, people with hsv1 genitally don't have a lot of obs, and I did only say 50% won't ever have another.

I would give the suppression a try, and make sure you've been tested for other stds, bacterial infection, yeast, etc.

Those could trigger or mimic obs.

This is not the doctor's forum scardam. If you want a doctor's opinion you need to pay for it on the std community with either HHH or EWH.

What sort of work up have you been thru? have you had a + lesion culture that said herpes or just a visual diagnosis of herpes and blood tests?  Have they been testing for anything else too?

I have herpes, and have worked in the std field for a long time, but am not a doc or nurse.

I had and ob about 3-4 months ago and my doc cultured it and it came back as hsv1. I wish it was wrong but they say cultures are RARELY wrond so that hope is down the drain. She also tested me for other bacteria but there wasnt any.
