HSV-1 Question

Hello Dr,
My girlfriend has HSV-1, and I dont know if I have it or not. She said she never had any breakouts. Under what circumstances can I kiss/have intercourse with her without worrying I will contract the HSV-1 virus from her? and is there a way to check to see if I have HSV-1 also?

Well, I just got tested yesterday and awaiting my results. But assuming I am negative, will kissing without her having a present cold sore get me infected? In other words will fluid exchange pass on the virus over to me?

well once you get tested to know your own status, then you can both decide together if any precautions are needed for any sexual activities or not.

so did your gf get tested to know that she has hsv1?

you can seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your own status is. you and your partner can't make educated decisions about what precautions to take for sex and oral sex until you know who has what.
