Ouch...it hurts

Hi,

I hope that I can post here as you deleted my prior post, however, I really need some advise please.

Tonight I had sex for the fist time since my first OB which was April 25. I have been taking 800 mg of Acylivor 3 x day and it seemed that my sores had healed.

I was extreamly nervous to have sex, but my prtnr assured me it wld be OK.

Well, it hurt, and immediatly the side that I had the OB on became swollen and red. Like a balloon and there appeard to be a slit right down the middle. Like a cut.

When I urinate it doesnt burn or sting, but it just burns all the time and is very, very tender.

Is this another OB or is this just how it is with Herpes?

I am trying to understand, please offer any help that you can and I promise to listen.

Thank you.

I got tested because a partner that I had almost three years ago called me out of the blue and said that he had just tested positve and that I shld get tested myself.  I had been tested before which was negative, I tested again and was still negative.

Both of my blood test were false negative apparantly.

Regarding your comment about why I ended my relationship...plain and simple.  I want to protect his sexual health.

I know that you have your own opinion on this, and so do I.

Thank you for your comments, your help and being there.

What led you to get tested in the first place in february?  I know you've had  prior posts but you've had multiple people posting under this name as well as you have multiple posts yourself.  I'm not even going to attempt to figure out which ones are yours and which ones aren't.  this is why we really recommend keeping all updates/questions in the same original post - it really does save everyone time and effort.

I have no idea what mindset would make you end a 19 month long relationship just because now you know you have genital herpes. You can get the odds of transmission down to 1%/ year on average - same risk as you getting pregnant if only using the birth control for protection from pregnancy and that's under ideal useage conditions of the pill.  Your partner never contracted it even with not knowing that you have it, a little bit of effort keeps the odds in favor of him staying that way.  Don't let hsv2 because a bigger issue than it needs to be in your life - it's not worth it.

It doesn't matter what test we are talking about whether it's a blood count, urinary culture or herpes testing, there will always be false negatives. No test is perfect.

I was tested positve for hsv2 via swab and culture.

I for some reason, test negative with the blood test.

I have been with my current partner for 19 months now.  He has tested negative for both types and has never had any symptoms of an outbreak.  His doctor told him to come back and test in 6 months.  He went over how we can still be sexualy active, safely to protect him and my partner says that he is OK withe everything, but I am not.  You would think my feelings and thinking would be his, and his mine, but I wont subject him to this virus.  I broke up with him because he shouldnt be exposed to this. He is negative and I want to keep him that way.

I know that you didnt ask me to go into that much detail about it, you only asked me how long I have been with my current partner, so I apologize but I needed to share.

Be careful everyone when getting tested for HSV via blood test as you could have the virus still.

There will always be a small percentage of folks who don't test + on the blood tests for herpes that we currently offer. For them  lesion cultures and typing are the only ways to detect herpes infection.  At this point you know what you have so no reason for more blood testing. If you really need peace of mind, should you get a recurrence, get that swabbed for herpes and typed to confirm it.

How long have you been with your current partner?

Also continue to follow up with your provider for your continued symptoms if you haven't already. Especially get tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally too.

Didn't ask you when you last had sex with an infected person, asked you the last time you had sex.

These are not new reslults...HHH is aware of every test results.

The last sexual encounter with an infected person was 11/2007.

I really don't like to knowingly take over when HHH was handling something.  I really prefer you add to your post there with the new results and ask him his opinion about it all.

You haven't had sex with anyone for the last 2 years I assume?

You need to go back to your provider for further evaluation.

was your lesion culture hsv1 or hsv2+?

Since you have new test results you are allowed to add to your HHH thread again for more assistance.

OMG...

My 1st IOB was 4/25/09 diagnosed with a swab culture.
Since then, I have been taking 800MG of Acyclovir 3x a day. Soon to reduce that to 400MG 2x day.

I think my symptoms lasted until 5/15/09.(seems like a long time)
Anyway, I have had total relief for three days in a row. Before it was relief after the 2nd or 3rd day, then swelling back again.

Does anyone know why I would be experiencing yet another OB??  I am slowly swelling and I see redness as well as what looks like the start of a blister. :(
Why so long of outbreaks and why so frequent? Especialy because I am taking Acyclovir?

Any suggestions please...

Thank you.

no it doesn't apply equally to both hsv1 and hsv2 testing.  You can test + for one accurately and not the other.

Thank you.

My last known possible exposure to HSV2 was in 11/07.  My last blood test was negative for HSV2, positive for HSV1.  This was in 2/09.

4/09 I was swollen, red and a little whitish on one side of my vagina.  It was sore as well.

Swab test came back + for HSV2.  I am sooo confused why did my blood test in 2/09 come back negative for HSV2????  How does this happen?  If I am one of the 10% that does not make detceable antibodies to the virus, wouldnt that be the same for both types?? WHy would I have them for type 1 and not type2??

I am just trying to figure out why the blood test would have been a false negative.  It was super low, .04 type specific, while type1 was high 5.40.

Esposure of type 2 was 14 months prior to blood test.  Wldnt that be enough time?

Thank you for your help.

Plain and simple, if you have HSV-1 or HSV-2 herpes, either an IgG type specific blood test and/or a Western Blot definitively detects antibodies to the herpes virus (assuming that's what you mean when you incorrectly say "antivirus"). To be fully accurate, testing should be done 4 months your last sexual contact, as it takes that long for the body to form antibodies.

Please, can somebody offer any information on if it is possible to test negative for HSV 2 antibodies even though you have the virus?

Thank you.

Grace,

Can you comment regarding herpes anti virus please?

Can a person NOT have anti bodies in their system after 14 months of possible exposure for HSV2, but have antibodies for HSV1 that they have had for 25 years?

If so, why would a blood test show no antivirus to HSV2, but a swab of a sore will show positive? 14 months from exposure time?

Thank you.

Hi Grace,

Is it possible to never have the anitbodies for HSV. but still have the virus? If, so why?

Also, could you have the antibodies for type1, but not type2 even though you do have both strains of the virus?  If so why?

Thank you.

Grace,

Dr. HH has been responding to my questions.  He wanted me update him on my partners status, which I did.

I am waiting for his comments/reply.

To answer your question, no we didnt use lube as I was pretty lubricated naturally, as I usally always am.

I am still red in the same area of the outbreak and it is still sore. Very sore. I can't tell if it's a new outbreak beacause my vagina really never went back to normal after the sores healed. I can still see little round circles very faintly, as if maybe it left a scar but when it swelled up they looked aweful and there was also a "slit" looking cut.
I am planning on going to the doctor soon, but my challenge is I have used all my allowable visits for this type and now must pay cash.

Grace, can you offer any advise as to why two blood test came back negative prior to my IOB? I first wld have been knowinly exposed in 11/2007 and tested negative. NO sex again w/ that person! I tested again in 2/09 and still negative.  04/09 genitle OB culture came back +
If you have any suggestions, I welcome them, I am still waiting for Dr. HH to respond.  I can wait for him as I know this can get confusing.
Thank you

I don't recall deleting your post so that means it was done by a medhelp moderator. typically they send you a message as to why it was deleted. Did you receive one?

Also I've asked you before to keep all your posts in the same original post - it really is helpful to get you the best advice possible.  I do not have time to go searching thru your prior posts to see if you have hsv1 or hsv2 and what your partner's status is so it saves us both time. Thank you for your future cooperation with this request.

You need to follow up on your new symptoms with your provider to see what is going on.  They could be due to many different things.  did you use lube?
