Partners with double false positives???

I went in for my annual and asked for std screening.  I was told I was positive for herpes 2.  I freaked, called my partner.
He was tested
Igg herpes 2  2.7

I tested
Igg herpes 2 1.09

Any chance we both have false positives?  Im pretty sure I've had hsv1 since I was a child.

no, the increase in your test results still doesn't mean much.

did your partner get the testing he needs done?

Will a western blot work if I think I may have gotten the infection in march 2011?

Should I go on suppressive?  Does the low#s mean I won't have out breaks?

your hsv2 is negative actually.

your partner will need to pursue additional testing to see if his hsv2 igg is a true positive or not.

I was tested may 23, my partner mid june.  We've been together for a year, he did admit cheating on me, pretty ambiguous about when he did so I don't have those details :(  We were not tested for hsv1.  I'm going in for another test today, going to ask for a western blot... Well we'll see...  I was disappointed that when I called the office they were adamant I had it, said 1.09 was high and therefore positive...knew absolutely nothing about the equivocal range!

I will let grace look over your results.  Shes trained in the testing.  Shes on limited forums access due to some painting and other much needed summer goofing off.

In the interim I will give you some questions to help her out and try to give you some info.

1.  When was the last time you and your partner had sexual contact from the date of the test (IE: 2 weeks 3 weeks 1 day)?

2.  When was the last time your partner had another sexual encounter outside of you?  (IE: 1 month 2 weeks, etc)

3. Do you and your partner have positive HSV-1 type specific igg tests or were you only tested for HSV-2?

HSV-1 being positive isn't really much of a surprise for most people.  You get it as a child usually orally.  HSV overall isn't much more than some bumps.  It isn't going to kill you. Granted I know of the social stigma around it but I think it will change as more and more of us show up with it.  Eventually I think we will think of HSV as we do of HPV.  It's a part of life.

As I am sure you are aware there is a false positive range on testing that we are aware of.  I can't comment if you meet such a second guess without those questions and grace is far better at that than I am.  However, the testing can be low positive sometimes because of HSV-1 being present.  I don't know if that is the case here but is something for us to look into.  Let's not get freaking out just yet.  :-)
