Can it be passed on?

The other night my boyfriend was performing oral on me. Two days later he got a cold sore. When he was little he apparently used to get them, but for the 4 years I've known him he's never had one. What is the chance his strain 1 could give me and infection. I'm really concerned that he mighthave passed it on to me. I myself have never had a cold sore and he said there is a chance I am immune to it.

Angie580 I think you need a bit more educating on HSV2 ..... I'm pretty certain your genital HSV2 was not from Oral sex ..... also if you are having all these symptoms you need to see a Doctor for further evaluation of your health as these symptoms are not typical of having the Herpes virus, you may have something else going on that is causing all this  .....

It is possible your BFs HSV 1 was passed to your genitals from his mouth during oral sex.  Even in the absence of a cold sore, the HSV 1 sheds and can be transmitted from his mouth to your genitals.

If you notice any symptoms, or are concerned enough, I would advise getting tested.

Please disregard the post directly below yours as it is not true.

I have had HSV 1 genitally for 11 years. It was passed to be from my partner who had cold sores as a child (though he had no sores present at the time). He passed it to me via oral sex.

I have had only one noticeable OB in that time. It does not cause memory issues, fatigue, headaches or excessive sweating.

In fact, if one is going to have HSV, having HSV 1 in the genital area is probably the best scenario! It is rather mild, OB as less frequent (if at all) and shedding is not common.

Therefore your chance of passing genital HSV 1 to a partner are lower. Much lower than passing HSV 2 genitally and HSV 1 orally.

Hope this helps.

what you described, that is exactly how i got hsv 2. some guy i met at a party went down on me and i later found out that he had genital herpes. i got checked and came out positive. this disease changes you forever, makes you weak, tired, feverish, sweaty, moody, depressed, and affects your memory.
