Risky Exposure and Possible New Infection

I have been in a monogamous relationship.  I was tested for all STD's (including HSV 1 and 2) when we first got together, and all results were negative; since then, I have not been with another woman.

However, after getting into an argument with my girlfriend, I decided to go out drinking with some friends.  I met another girl in a bar, and made the very poor, drunken decision to take her home.  We both performed unprotected oral sex on each other, as well as unprotected vaginal sex (this was in the very early morning hours).  She had no visible signs of herpes or any other STD.  Two days ago, after working out, I noticed that I had a bit of a rash at the base of my penis.  It was red, and burned a little bit; but was more or less NOT raised, with no visible blisters.  I also noticed that my anus was beginning to itch (but no blisters), and after defecating there was a bit of blood on the tissue when I wiped.  I went to my family doctor yesterday, and he checked out the rash (which has for the most part gone away), as well as my rectum.  He said everything looks fine, and does not feel I should be worried.  He also drew some blood to test for HSV 1 and 2.

Starting last night, I now have the sensation as if I constantly have to urinate; as if I didn't quite get it all out.  It's more like the tip of my penis is constantly tingling or has an itch.  It was gone when I awoke this morning, but returned right after I urinated.

Based on these symptoms, should I be worried about HSV 1 or 2? And would it be possible to get either on my genitals, but not orally, since I also performed unprotected oral on her, as well as unprotected vaginal sex?  And how conclusive will my test results be?  Also, if not herpes, do these symptoms seem to coincide with any other STD's?  I should also mention that I took 2 doses of Azithromycin about 5 days after the incident.

Thanks!

The sticky discharge could definitely be the result of your sexual contact last night, for sure.  In my opinion, you should believe the lab tests and try to take the focus away from your genitals and on to other aspects of your life right now.  If you can't stop thinking about it, do volunteer work.  Its always good to focus on someone else who needs your help when you start obsessing about STDs that probably don't exist.  Your testing was for that purpose.

Ms. Warren,

I went back to the Dr. to have a complete testing for all STD's done.  The doctor took blood and urine to check for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and an HIV PCR test.  He also swabbed for HSV 1 and 2.  I received the results and all were negative...including the original blood test for HSV 1 and 2.  So overall, I was given a clean bill of health.

I engaged in unprotected vaginal intercourse last night with my girlfriend, after which i noticed some sensitivity around my urethra, and it was noticably irritated; appeared to be red and some what inflamed.  We went to bed after which, and it appeared to be better when I awoke.  However, when I got up, I noticed that I had some clear sticky discharge, which has since gone away.  My penis remains sensitive though.

I'm a little confused as to what it can be, since I was told I seem to be free of all STD's.  Is it possible I may actually be infected with something, but it did not show?  Could there be something else at play here; or could it just be my nerves and guilt?  Could the clear sticky discharge I had this morning be the results of the intercourse last night?

I would very much appreciate your opinion, as I continue to be on edge about all of this.

Thank you!

We engaged in oral sex, but after reading other posts, I believe this would be less risky, is that correct?  Is it possible that many of the symptoms I have been experiencing are due to stress?  All the symptoms which I listed above have cleared; although now I have a raised lymph node in my groin, and about four red spots toward the tip of my penis, with one being on the head.  They are not raised at all, but are a bit tender to the touch.

So once again, I am concerned about this being a herpes breakout.  I am going to the doctor again today to have it checked; but how likely is it that this could be herpes?

Beer would not interfere with the effectiveness of the antibiotic, no.  The drug takes a full week to work; it stays in your system that long.  If you had sex right away, it may well not have been enough time to prevent your girlfriend from being infected.  This is worrisome.

One more question, how soon after taking the 2 grams of azithromycin would I no longer be in danger of exposing my girlfriend?  Considering I took it 3 days after the incident, was 24 hours enough time?

Thank you for the information.  I was treated with the azithromycin prior to being tested for STD's.  I took 2 grams at around 6pm, about 3 days after the incident.  A few days later I went out to celebrate a friends birthday and had a few beers.  Would this counteract the effectiveness of the azithromycin; or would it still knock out the chlamydia, if I had been infected.?

Your symptoms don't sound like herpes, no, but they certainly are concerning.  How much azithromycin did you take?  The standard dose for covering chlamydia is 1 gram.  Were you tested for STD's or just treated?  I would certainly recommend that you go back and see your provider once again and talk clearly about your symptoms and your sexual contact.  You may need more antibiotic or a different one, but don't delay, you don't want this to get more complicated.

It may also be worth noting, that as of this afternoon, I now have pain AFTER urinating.  It feels completely normal while I urinate, but afterward, I continue to dribble for an abnormal amount of time (about 15 mins), and have a burning sensation around the hole.  What exactly could all of this be associated with?
