Please help!

I had some ulcerations on my vagina little over a year ago - tested for herpes and came back negative. Not in clusters but painful ulcers all the same.
Are there ANY other things that can cause these? It seems like the only explanation for painful ulcers on the genitals is herpes but is there nothing else that can be considered?
help much appreciated
