Please read..your thoughts?

I was in bed yesterday morning when I noticed a tiny red cut on the side of my shaft, half an inch from the head of my penis. The dot was red, and probably about half the size of a bb- very small. I only noticed because, I mean its my penis, I look at it everyday- Im pretty sure I know it like the back of my hand. So i went to the dermatologist today, and he said he would take a virus culture, but that he could not tell what it was from looking at it. The dot doesnt have anything coming out of it, literally looks like a tiny, round scrape. He told me to go ahead and put Neosporin on it, which i did. Now it looks like it has filmed and crusted over- kind of like what your knee looks like when you scrape it and put the neosporin on.. like slimy-ish, but not oozing.. kind of just healing. Before today it was RED like. Nothing hurts, except to irritate the dot (which im guessing makes sense because its an open wound).
furthermore:
I did have unprotected sex almost exactly 2 weeks ago.
I master bated the night BEFORE I saw the dot... i know i know..
anyway, does this sound like herpes? everywhere i read it says there is a whole process that happens before an actual open wound appears- and i would imagine it would have hurt to master bate and rupture a blister, that I did not even see.... Im just really confused- all the information on the internet is extremely broad and makes me feel like i fit the diagnosis for almost every STD.. any information would be a great help, and if you need more info on my story please let me know. Thank you for reading this i know its long..

there's no such thing as a herpes diet. the lysine/arginine theory was disproven over 20 years ago now. The few websites that still tout it aren't very reliable and aren't up to date.   lots of wrong info out there to be read about herpes :(

no reason to change anything you eat other than to listen to what mom told you when you were 5 years old - eat your veggies!!!

thats insane.. its sad that more people are not more well informed on all this because it really does take a huge mental toll on you at first, until you realize how common and manageable it can be... I know that you are supposed to watch your diet, stress, and other habits, but my question is do people cut things out completely? like, does anyone have an OB from drinking a cup of coffee or eating some penuts every once in a while, or have an occasional cigarette?

hsv1 genitally reoccurs less often than hsv2 does. it also doesn't shed very much. about 1/2 of folks who have hsv1 genitally never get another recognizable recurrence.

In your age group, 70% of all genital herpes infections are due to hsv1. It's pretty darn common both orally and genitally ( 1 out of every 3 people around you has it orally in fact ).

with the mildness of your symptoms, I wouldn't be surprised if this was actually a recurrence and not a newly acquired infection actually.

also, I feel kind of ..relived.. that its type 1. i dont know why, but is this wrong? does type 1 behave exactly the same as 2 in terms of how often and easily it comes back, sheds, worse recurrent outbreaks, DIET (i really, really love penut butter, and eat whey protein after the gym- so both are kind of important to me, but iv came to terms with giving them up...), etc?

ok, i just came back from the doctor. blood test was "less than .9, or .09" ? dont know what that means, but he said that it means like, i got it recently probably. also, the culture was type 1 positive. my symptoms are basically gone, he gave me enough valtrex for another out break or two, but he said he recommends just waiting it out and seeing if my body is strong and makes it go away on its own. He said hes surprised at how mild my case was and that he would never have thought it was herpes.
Im guessing it was mild because its type 1? what does this mean now that i know its type 1? will my next out break be even more mild? any info is appreciated.

Typing is important, yes, as HSV1 and 2 behave differently in the genital area, and such info may define the way you can minimize transmission risks.

It would be better to call them and check if the specimen is still there. If it is, they should type it. Otherwise you'll have to wait 3-4 months to get a blood test and maybe get an answer.

I'm not so sure on how oral swabs work but it may have been positive because you tested positive to HSV1 which is oral herpes. You can catch oral herpes on your genitals but it could also mean you just had oral herpes which most people have.

no you don't have to worry about your penis falling off. acyclovir cream isn't effective on genital herpes lesions. it isn't harmful, it just doesn't do much of anything and isn't worth the time or money of using it. your provider needs to update their herpes treatment knowledge.

what viral test came back as +? was it the lesion culture came back as + for herpes?

this is already healing so taking acyclovir orally at this point is also pretty much a waste of time and money.

thats weird we both found out in the same day. honestly, it sucks but could be worse. all I have as of now is this annoying little cut. I pray it will stay that way and eventually go away. but i just saw some commercial of veterans who got burned all over their bodies so im just trying to not feel sorry for myself. everything on the internet is saying the first out breaks the worst, so im hoping this is as bad as it gets. it will definitely make me eat better for my immune system, and not have unprotected 1 night stands anymore- which is something iv been trying to stop, but its hard when your in college and drinking, but now i guess i have no choice. really the only negative is that theres a cut on my dick. not the end of the world, just annoying, and from what i read - it gets better. bottom line is theres nothing we can do except make it as minor an issue as possible. Iv also started to think, i know way more people who have sex more than i do, with people in the same general population (people at school and around our age pretty much), so some of my friends and people i know, based off these assumptions, have to have it also. i mean, i know the girl who i MOST likely got it from had sex with 2 guys i know- just found this out saturday. now im just rambling, but yeah, how about you?

its already been a week, and he wont see me until monday. i mean, its positive as a virus, which means its herpes... does it really matter what kind? iv been reading up on herpes non stop this last week and am seeing people say that type 1 is usually milder, and a cold sore... Im in college, and have been with a good amount of girls, so would it make sense to think this is type 1 from a girls mouth or something? as iv said before, the only symptom is this tiny, tiny, annoying, little cut.. but yeah, would that makes sense or am i just wrong?

@im in trouble- just saying, even the smallest symptom could turn out to be herpes

what's this do?

Ask them to type the culture - no need to take a blood test for that. Culture typing will give you a prompt answer.
Make sure to do it quickly, so that the specimen is still there.

ok, viral test came back positive- the nurse said this means its pretty much 100% i have herpes.. now theyre waiting on the blood work. she said that the blood lab did test to see which strand it was. They said they would give me a script for valtrex and zovirax-cream (i guess to put on the sore). Symptoms have not gotten worse, or better really.

Now i look online and it says dont put zovirax-cream on your penis. Thats great, but i already have... Im so confused; with my luck this is going to make my dick fall off. No nurse could see me, the doctor cant see me until monday, and the nurses i talked to on the phone didnt seem to want to explain anything past 'pick up your prescription at the desk, it will be waiting for you.' Great.

this doesn't sound like herpes. see your provider if you are concerned.

The sore looked like it was healing after the first day; a yellowish scab like film went over it, then it became harder and smaller. But it has now been 5 or 6 days and I feel like its in the same stages and going back and forth. Sometimes it looks like its healing and shrinking, then the next day it will look like a tiny cut again. Is this typical with herpes sores and their healing process? I have no other symptoms.

herpes lesions typically are painful and/or itchy. you wouldn't have noticed this you said except for you were looking at it. odds are it isn't herpes.

odds are this isn't herpes going on.

if your lesion culture is negative and you just need peace of mind, you can pursue a type specific herpes igg blood test 3 months post encounter.

since you had unprotected sex, you can get tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea now. syphilis in another month. hepatitis and hiv with your herpes testing at the 3 month mark.

we recommend protected sex and protected oral sex because it works :)

I guess what im trying to ask is; do lesions appear so suddenly (over night) and do blister hurt to touch? and if so, would the lesion begin to heal so quickly (1 day)?
