Positive for HSV 1/2 IgG with neg type specific results for hsv1 and hsv2

I do not understand how the nurses at my gyn tell me I am positve for HSV 1/2 IgG but my results for hsv 1 IgG type specific is neg and hsv 2 IgG type specific is also neg! Freaking out :( I first got tested in '09 then again in '11.
These are my results, if anyone could please advice me about the meaning of these results I would really appreciate it.
In Dec '09
HSV 1/2 IgG Rflx 1-2 Type Specific
HSV 1/2 IgG  3.3H
HSV 1 IgG type specific  <0.91
HSV 2 IgG type specific  <0.91

In Dec '11
HSV 1/2 IgG Rflx 1-2 Type Specific
HSV 1/2 IgG  2.7H
HSV 1 IgG type specific  <0.91
HSV 2 IgG type specific  <0.91
My results show negative for both types, yet the nurses say since I have positive antibodies that I am positive! Makes no sense that even after two years I'm still neg for both types and told I have HSV. I honestly don't believe what they are telling me.

Lilith189.The results mean that you are positive to Herpes 1 (HSV1), but negative to Herpes 2 (HSV2).Your doctor can prescribe you antibiotics to slow down the outbreaks; it should help.

Hi Grace.
I was diagnosed positive with hsv2 a few days ago. My results say hsv1 greater than 5 and hsv2 greater than 5 however the doctor specifically said I was negative for hsv1. After telling me this her response to my tears and panic was basically......it is what it is and its nothing you can do about it we can't take it away so get going and I'll see you for your Depo. I was devastated and speechless. I will add that one of the staff mislabled my blood and the STD councelor whom I was sitting in with after giving the blood re-labled it. Should I be re-tested somewhere else.

Ok, thank you so much Grace, I really appreciate your help!! I sure will give that dr a peice of my mind for not properly reading me my results. You're doing an awesome thing by helping all of us be more informed about hsv!

there isn't any reason for more testing when you've tested completely negative twice.

you already had type specific testing done twice.

Thank you so much for your reply Grace! I kept trying to speak to my dr about the results because I just was't satisfied with what they were telling me but they kept telling me I had to set an appt first just for the dr to explain my results to me herself. Rediculous, I think. So do you think I should even be retested at my next appt I set up just to make sure? It would be a Herpeselect IgG for type 1 and type 2 which does differentiate between the two.

unfortunately the person you spoke to doesn't know how to properly interpret the results :(  I'd email your doctor and let them know so that they can properly educate that person if they are going to be advising folks on their herpes test results.

the  non-type specific results are meaningless and shouldn't even have been ordered on you. A + on those results  means nothing.  unfortunately the person you spoke to doesn't realize that. there is a high false positive rate with that test and since it doesn't differentiate between hsv1 and hsv2, no good reason to draw it and waste your money on it.

You are negative for both hsv1 and hsv2 on both tests.  You should've never been told otherwise.

I'd also like to add that the only reason i got tested for all stds the first time was because I was entering a new relationship and wanted to take precautions before we were ever sexually active. I had no symptoms, no history of any kind of outbreaks for hsv and had only two other partners in my life. The nurse called me and told me my results were negative for all stds so I was never given any kind of medication nor was I given a printed copy of my results. I proceeded with the relationship after being told everthing was negative for stds. Now after two years of being with the same guy (faithfully) I found out that he had cheated and had sex with another girl and it was more than once with her. So I decided to ask my gyn for a full std test when i went for my yearly pap because I was scared of possibly catching something from his promiscuity. This time in '11 they called me and told me i was positive for hsv but the results were just about the same as they were in '09 when they said it was neg. They also said my levels were low and it was a new infection. This time I went straight to my dr office to see the printout of my results. I had both test done at the same dr office and same nurses advising me of my results. I blamed my boyfriend for giving it to me for his cheating so he set himself an appointment to get tested and had the HSV 1/2 IgG Herpeselect Type Specific test done and came back negative for hsv1 IgG type specific <0.90 and negative for hsv2 igG type specific <0.90. He had never had any symptoms either and this was three months after his sexual activity with the other girl. So learning this, I went back to my gyn's office and told the nurse my bf was neg. She then pulled up my results from two years ago and said i was positive back then too! That's not was i was told! So first they said i was neg on my very first test, then two years later they look at it again and say it was positive, and also that my most recent test was also positive after they had told me this most recent test was a new infection and was new to my body! They make no sence and keep changing what they tell me. Their conflicting answers to my results are driving me crazy and i don't know what to think. I've already set myself another appointment at another dr office that used a different lab and uses IgG type specific testing. I don't think after two years if I supposedly had hsv that my bf never got it, we never used any type of protection, I never showed any syptoms and came back neg for both types on both test.
