Possible HSV2 exposure 25 female
2/18/12: I had outercourse with a male friend (no condom). No penetration, he was rubbing his penis around my anus/buttocks. Less than 24 hours later, I noticed a small red rash on the buttocks.
2/19 – 2/21: I had a tingling and slight burning sensation inside the buttocks and back of legs. This occurred for 3 days only at night. The rash grew a bit and appeared on the buttocks and thighs.
2/22: PCP said “NOT herpes! It looks like a heat rash, there are no sores.” Blood test negative.
2/24: Went to OBGYN. He said “100% that is not herpes.” He offered other explanations such as new soap. He gave me topical ointment.
2/28: Shaved pubic area, when hair started growing back I noticed a small red bump. I usually get red areas after shaving but never before noticed a raised bump. It went away after a few days.
3/2: I ran out of the ointment, and started using a cream that I had from a previous rash post-surgery. It was the same type (Fluocinonide) but a cream rather than an ointment. I applied it directly to anus and inside buttocks.
A few days later, I got a very dry crackly discomfort in the inside of the buttocks next to the anus, lasted 5 days.
3/18: 4 weeks I had a nasty cold/flu. It started out the first day with just sneezing and a runny nose. Then I had a headache, swollen glands in the neck, temp (99.1). I was bed ridden for one day, and then still had sneezing and a runny nose for a few more days.
3/20 – now: Burning sensation returned and was more noticeable, in the inner and outer buttocks area, back of thighs and down to the lower legs. (anxiety?)
3/23: I felt a pronounced irritation on the anus, upon inspection I immediately located a very small clear looking rectangular spot. I went to another OBGYN. She said the spot itself wasn’t a vesicle and didn’t look like herpes. She also said that a cream as opposed to an ointment might cause dryness.
The only explanation I could think of was another irritation from the cream a few weeks prior.

I am ecstatic to report that he took a HerpesSelect blood test a few days ago and the results were Negative for both HSV1 and 2.
It has been 6 weeks since our exposure, and he said he hadn’t had intercourse for a few months before. that This means there was enough time elapsed that the test should be correct.
How accurate is the HerpesSelect blood test? Can I breathe easy now, and try to find another explanation for the burning sensation and irritations?

I am still quite concerned. What about the burning sensation that returned (buttocks, thighs and legs) and the anal irritation after week 4? The 3rd doc said the irritation on the anus didn't look typical herpes but it can show up in different forms. Also my blood test was 3 days after possible exposure and therefore wasn't valid. I found out he was lying and wasn't tested. We did go to the clinic and get a blood test for him and will find out his status in a few days. Let me know what you think. I know the chances of one encounter are low even if he does have it, but I am anxious. Thank you.

Your symptoms certainly don't sound like herpes to me. And the fact that you had two doctors look at it and said it didn't look like herpes speaks volumes. As does your negative test. And also, the fact that your partner in question tested negative means a whole lot.
No typical symptoms, no herpes seen by two doctors, no positive antibody test and no partner with herpes. All very good news, in my opinion.

The guy said he was tested in oct and he has never had any symptoms at all, no rash, bumps, or an itch.
I am planning to get another blood test at week 8, then again in 16. I concerned with the latest anal irritation. I’m having a mental breakdown.
ALSO UPDATE:
I noticed a tiny red rash on my wrist, it looks a lot like the one that has been on my buttocks.
If this is herpes is it possible I spread it to my wrist from when I wipe after going to the bathroom? I have also been inspecting the area a lot with my hands but I do wash thoroughly after.
Should I not touch anyone now? If I give someone back massage tomorrow will it risk spreading to them?
