Help! Herpes or no?

Hi, I am a female. Can herpes show up on the buttocks only? About once a month right before my period I get red bumps with blisters (pus filled but don't pop) on the right side of my buttocks. Almost every time it is in the same spot. Its not painful but does itch a little. It is gone in 3-5 days and leaves a scar. I do not get these bumps on my viagina ONLY on my buttocks. I was told by a medical professional that if the are not located anywhere eles in the genital area or are painful than they are not herpes??? True or no? I am scared to death to be tested!! Thank you in advance for your help and insight!! Peace

sounds like they were only offering non-type specific testing which is the blood testing that many PP offer unfortunately.   It's a waste of time and money most of the time .

No, it does not. They are totally wrong.
Modern tests do diferenciate between HSV1 and HSV2. You might try to insist with them about it, even citing the CDC guidelines for herpes, or try to find another doctor. You can even have a herpes blood test through the internet, some sites offer it.

Hi...UPDATE! I went to Planned Parenthood yestrday to have a blood test. They discouraged me not to have one only because..( these are their words) 80% of the population have herpes (oral) and my test will come back positive. Sooo the recommended having a culture when I am having an outbreak to better determine if I have it or not. Does this sound like the norm? Thanks again for of your input :)

The hives aren't going to be herpes or a response from your immune system.  Could be anything else.  Keep working with your providers to find out what is going on.

Hello..wow great info. thank you so much for the responses. I feel a little more at ease now that I know that getting tested is so conconvient. I think alot of people aren't aware of the resources we have :). Anyway, I have another question. So, I posted that I have hives right? Do you think these hives are linked to hsv? Meaning, because my body is fighting off the virus I get hives? If it is linked.. after I find out the results to my test and after taking meds they will go away.Or maybay it is my grass alllergies that I have. Its really hard for doctors as well as myself to try to put all these pieces together. It is my hope that I can help other people too with this new found info. Have a great day!

I get a lesion on my right hip/mid buttock when I have an outbreak.  It burns/itches, small little blisters that coincide (at least twice) same spot with vaginal outbreak.  Yes, you can get an outbreak on your behind.  Is not as painful there as other places though..

odds are that neither you nor your bf have ever been tested for herpes before. It's a good idea for you both to seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing to see who has what at this point.

You can just order up the igg blood testing on your own through healthcheckusa.com or tstd.org if either of them are near you.

Thank you to both people on their insights. I have had a b/f for the past year who does not have herpes or has shown any symptoms from being with me if I do have it. One thing I have not mentioned is I have severe hives due to allergies from grasses that I am allergic to. I have been working with an allergist and have seen several doctors on my hive condition. Just yesterday I saw my allergist and she was the one who thought I did not have herpes and even suggested that she would give me a virus medication to see if it works for my rash on my bottocks. We decided againist it ( viral med) because I am starting 2 different medications for my allergies. Also too I have no medical insurance so unfortunately I can't see a dermatoligist. So, I am going to make an appointment with planned parenthood to check and see if it is herpes.

yes you can have herpes lesions occur on the buttocks - it's actually a fairly common site for recurrences. at this point you need to be seeing a dermatologist when you have symptoms to try to get a better idea of what is going on. Pursuing a type specific herpes igg blood test meanwhile  is also a good idea to see what your herpes status is.

Of course I am not a medical professional but it sounds to me like they could be boils... boils do tend to re-occur in the same places.... your fluxuation in hormones near your cycle could be triggering them, could also be a certain kind of soap or laundry detergent... I would definitely make a trip to the Dr just to have it checked out tho....
