Probably have HSV2, when should I test?

My husband has HSV2 (doesn't remember ever having a BO). He found out when we got together and he started taking antiviral. He ran out of his prescription a couple months ago and hasn't gone in to renew it.
I am HSV1 positive, but don't know if I've ever had any symptoms. I don't get cold sores. I tested negative for HSV2 after we got together.

I believe I may have contracted HSV2 from him 2 weeks ago. Looking back, he did have broken skin on his shaft.
A couple days later I felt horrible, worse than after having a baby. I had a low-grade fever, diarrhea, hemorrhoids and felt like crap. I chalked all this up to tummy issues from traveling out of country. The next day it started to hurt to pee. I went to the clinic and got antibiotics for a UTI. The next two days were the most painful, horrible days ever. Then started to feel a little better.
About a week in, I noticed a sore right near my anus when checking to see how the hemorrhoids looked. The sore seemed to only last about 3 days, it looks healed now, and it's not tender and stinging anymore.
About a week in, I started to have super sensitive/painful skin on the backs of my legs, from buttocks to feet. It was awful, made it difficult to go to sleep. That seems to be better today, for the first time. I still get some random shooting pains in my feet/toes.
But, I now have a terrible pounding headache that won't really go away. I am still (or again) running a low-grade fever. I think I've had headaches off and on for about 3-4 days, but my most recent started yesterday morning and hasn't gone away since.
Toileting is still sensitive, especially peeing, not as bad as last week, but not normal.

This has been 2 weeks of pain and agony and generally feeling like crap. I've been in tears several times over the pain. Nothing relieves the pain completely.

It sounds like I am too late for a swab or visual check on this outbreak. And it looks like I wouldn't really be able to get a good Herpeselect result, yet.

When should I test?
Do I just have to wait out this OB or is there treatment I can get?
Am I right thinking this presents like an initial HSV2 OB?

Hi, if you had vaginal sex and he was having an outbreak and you contracted herpes the sores would have been in your vaginal area not the anus area unless you had anal sex at the time. Getting outbreaks there would be from a recurrent outbreak meaning you already have herpes. You can test now to see if youve contracted it in the past but from what youve posted it does not appear as a herpes outbreak. Testing at 8 weeks would be a good indicator but 3 months would be conclusive,

I'd say 4 months.

You have HSV1 already so it will take a little longer for you to seroconvert.

What you could (should) also do is go to the ER (or to see your doctor) THE MOMENT you experience another sore (like the one near your anus) and have it swabbed/cultured.  A swab test of a fresh blister is the best test there is to determine whether or not someone is HSV infected.

Life360- We did engage in anal sex during that encounter.

TiminBoston- I didn't know that about having HSV1 making a difference in timing of results. That's a little frustrating.

I am waiting for my health insurance to start up in a few weeks. That is why I haven't been seen since the UTI test 10 days ago. But, obviously something is still going on with me. If it's not an initial OB of HSV2 then I guess it could be that the UTI isn't gone and that would need to be looked at again. Or both. I guess I might have to bite the bullet and find a clinic that can help with these issues.

to answer your other questions, yes that could certainly be a new HSV2 infection.  I think you realize that.  Now you know when to test for the most reliable blood results.

You ask about treatment and so I'll tell you that valtrex should improve symptoms and make future outbreaks much more tolerable.

Having said that, it is NOT recommended that anyone take antivirals until they have a + diagnosis as it has been proven to skew antibody test results causing false negatives for as long as a person is taking the medication

Is it possible to begin another outbreak as you are just finishing one?

Yesterday I really felt like I was getting close to healed and feeling better. Not 100%, but maybe 90% better. Last night the area right around my anus became more sensitive again to the point that it woke me up in the night. This morning I found two little bumps in that area. Very little bumps. These are the first bumps I've noticed this whole time, but I did have what appeared to be an open sore that lasted about 3 days a week ago.
Toileting was getting better, now feels like it's worse again. Very sore around my tailbone area. Still itchy and uncomfortable in that entire genital region. Feel heavy in my lower abdomen area.

I'm showering and doing sitz baths, using wet wipes and witch hazel pads, keeping the area as dry as possible and wearing loose, cotton undies.

I'm just trying to figure out how long this is going to last. I was really thinking I was on the mend and now I have no idea what to expect. I guess the "bright side" is that if these bumps open up I can have them swabbed...
