Herpes or not

A year and a half ago I had unprotected sex with an ex-boyfriend. A few days later I had intense itching and discharge and seeked help from 2 doctors who said it was just a year infection. I had no sores at the time just a heavy discharge and was pretty upset about it for being so stupid.

Fast forward to 6 months later during my midterms where I was extremely stressed I had an outbreak of what I thought may have been herpes. 5 little red bumps that blistered on the right groin panty line area. I went to the doctors to get tested and a PCR swab. The swab came back with VZV DNA and not HSV-1 or HSV-2. I was diagnosed with having an outbreak of shingles at 21........ I was relieved at the time but I`m looking back on it now and have gotten myself paranoid and worried all over again as both doctors said a blood-test is not necessary for me. I am negative for all other STDs and not sure if I am taking this way to far. As from December 2013 I have not had anything like that again. Just need some input from others if I should still  be worrying...

why are you freaking out? You  had shingles and the + pcr swab for shingles confirms that.

if you need more peace of mind, by all means you should test for hsv1 and hsv2 via igg blood testing yearly unless in a long term monogamous relationship anyways.

the pcr swab was the best way to know what was the cause of your symptoms.  shingles shouldn't reoccur again for you.
