Protected oral sex

Hello,

I received protected oral sex from a woman about a week ago.  Two days later, I had a white bump centered on one of my pubic hairs about an inch and a half above my penis.  I pulled at it (because I thought it was just a pimple) and it bled a little.  Then I freaked out and went two days later (48 hours after I first saw the bump) to see a doctor, who said it probably wasn't herpes and was more likely a follicle but could be herpes, and that we should just culture it rather than take a history, but he didn't know if we would get any positives on either bacterial or viral cultures because the bump had already crusted over.  He wasn't very helpful in explaining the possibilities.

I've never had a cold sore.  Five years ago I had a blood test and was clear for IgM and IgG antibodies to both HSV-1 and HSV-2.  Any idea what my odds are of being positive?  Thank you in advance.  I hate that I freak out like this.

So, turns out that the pimple/lesion whatever was indeed fresh enough for a culture.  Herpes negative.  Strep positive.  Not staph, strep.  So it's like two weeks of keflex or something.  What a relief.  Thank you again daisy for being there and listening.

Yes,the only way to know for sure if this pimple on your penis is Herpes would be to have a culture taken from it a blood test will only tell whether you have HSV1 or not it won't say where ......
Culture of the spot while it's as you would consider active is your best bet if you want to know if it's definately Herpes you have going on there or not .....

But won't that test show up just as positive if I've been exposed orally (like, through kissing)?  I have done some kissing in the last five years.

Have a type specific IGg blood test done that will tell whether you have HSV1 or HSV2 or both ......
If you have had unprotected Vaginal or Oral sex in the past other than this episode the possibilty is there and you may just be pretty asymptomatic but only a test can tell you for sure whats going on IF anything, have a test if only to give you peace of mind, trying to guess or self diagnose is no substitute for a proper test and will only cause you ongoing anxiety which at the end of the day could be for nothing ......

Thanks.  I'm absolutely convinced I have it, but I appreciate your kind words.  Here's what I think is my last question:  if something like 80-90% of people have been exposed to HSV-1 and have antibodies, and that's the one I'd likely have been exposed to in this encounter, is there really any test I can have that clears things up?

I don't think it always matters where an actual HSV2 outbreak happens many people are Genitally infected yet have never had an outbreak there,it can be anywhere below the waist.
If her mouth made contact with your testicles and she DOES have HSV1 then transmission is possible, your Dermatologist is correct in saying IF it is Herpes it is not a primary outbreak because those are usually very noticable much more than a little spot in most cases .......
To put your mind at rest have a test done around a month after the event took place I am not saying this because I think you have Herpes it's more to give you peace of mind so that you don't have to continue to have anxiety about something you probably don't have as that innitself can be very waring ......

Thanks Daisy.  She kissed my testicles once or twice, but she never touched the area where the pimple (or whatever it was) showed up.  So I was very surprised (and anxious).  Would it show up where it entered my body or could it be anywhere in the area?

How long do I have to wait before I have a test?  The dermatologist said if I did have herpes it was a nonprimary infection.

It is unlikely that this is Herpes you had protected Oral sex so your risk was very low unless more than the covered area was involved, you also don't know that your partner even HAS Herpes in the first place ...... If this continues to cause you anxiety I would suggest you have a test done in a couple of weeks if only to put your mind at rest because once your mind becomes over active it will be an ongoing issue for you so best to have a test and move on ......
You are doing the right thing by using protection so don't worry too much about it .....
