Recurrent Herpes??

I have herpes simplex 1 for about 5 years. I didn't have any outbreaks after the first one for almost 2 years, and then about once a year. My doctor prescribed Valtrex to take when I have outbreaks. Recently I have had symptoms of what I though was a herpes outbreak (I just have tingling and light itching/doscomfort-I have never had an actual sore since the first outbreak) and took my the recommended dose 1000mg twice a day for 7 days. The symptoms did not go away, so I continued taking them for a total of 3 weeks. I still have tingling and slight itching. Is this a herpes outbreak or could it be something else? Is there any reason if it is herpes why the valtrex isn't working?

for recurrences of genital herpes, valtrex is 500mg 2x/day for 3 days.   no need to take the dose you were taking - it's pretty much wasting money and time :(

you can stop the valtrex - this isn't your herpes reoccurring. Be sure to be seen today or tomorrow and get properly tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally. If you've had any recent encounter that would put you at risk for chlamydia or gonorrhea, make sure to test for those too while you are there.
