Question about herpes...

My doctor recently told me that in my recent blood test, they found I have been exposed to herpes II. I got hysterical and she said I have been exposed to it, but that doesn't mean I have it. Is that possible? Also she asked about symptoms and I have been looking these things up online and I don't have any of the symptoms. Do I have it? And I know it says sometimes it can show up later, but how is it in my blood and I have just been exposed? I don't understand. Also I have a small sister, she eats off of me and drinks after me and we've used the same soap until I found this out, can she catch this from me?

You tested + for both hsv1 and hsv2. Statistically that's hsv1 orally and hsv2 genitally.  It's good you got those results - both are over the cut off range and you don't need any additional confirmatory testing done.

Have you gotten a chance to read the free herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com yet?

You can still share soap. The virus is easily killed with soap and water.

You can still share food and drinks too, just avoid doing so anytime you have an active cold sore present or are otherwise ill.

Ms. Grace,

I think I may in fact just have it with no symptoms. Everything else says negative but this was found:

HSV 1/2 IGG, HERPESELECT
TYPE SPECIFIC AB

HERPES SIMPLEX TYPE 1 OUT OF RANGE - 7.52 H EIA VALUE
HERPES SIMPLEX TYPE 2 OUT OF RANGE - 8.79 H EIA VALUE

There is no such thing as just being exposed to herpes. You either have it or you don't.  If you have it, you can transmit it to others regardless of if you think you've ever had symptoms or not.

I can best help you if you get a copy of your blood test results and post them here for me to look at - ie hsv1 igg 8.7 and hsv2 igg 2.6 or whatever they are.

Herpes is easily killed with soap and water.

Genital herpes is transmitted thru contact with your genital area.
