Scared and confused

Hello I was recently active with a new boyfriend and it was unprotected about 3 days after I got flu symptoms and high fever I always tear during sex so I was not suspicious if my cut in the perennial area. However I went In to the ER for my symptoms cause the cut hurt extremely bad and I had burning when I urinated long story short the doc per scribed acyclovir for me saying I had genital herpes. I followed up with my regular doc who did a culture of the sore and blood test both came back neg. then about a mo later I noticed a puss pocket sore on the side off my perenium it later became a open flat surfaced sore then healed and I have a pink scar I retested twice as cultured that sore as well both came back neg for HSV 2 so I did one last test about 2 wjs ago and it was positive for hsv2 at <5.00 what is going on? The sore came back again last week in same area but smaller and then went away.. I'm confused as very scared.

Thank you for all your insight Grace.. I had a bacterial culture as well as a viral but the doctor says the white patch was a herpes sore that was healing and because of the mucous it turned white. Anyways I got another blood test for HIV and syphilis just to be safe make sure I don't have anything worse than hsv2. I hope they find a cure soon. What's ur opinion on HSV being just a fungus? Do u think it can be cured by anti fungal meds?

stress and illness will cause hair to fall out :(  It'll grow back once things get back to normal.

sounds like you need a different gyn perhaps?

at this point I'd just be seen every time you have symptoms and hope to get a + lesion culture to confirm your status. A hsv2 igg of 5 isn't likely to be a false positive but if you haven't confirmed it with a lesion culture in a few months and just need the peace of mind, you can always get a WB then if you need it ( sometimes denial is hard to get around I understand that! ).

white patches can be many things going on - fungal infections, healing skin, even things like lichens.  hopefully soon it all gets figured out! herpes won't cause pus under the skin though so if you are getting pus filled bumps, you need another bacterial culture too.

best of luck - I know it sucks to feel like you are seeing more of your gyn than you are your friends :(

Thank u grace and the others who have responded to my posts... To answer ur questions grace.. I have been tested for chancroid, syphilis, aids and a few other basic stds I was told they did a bacterial culture and it was normal but this doc office is upsetting me because the doc sat with me my second to last blood test and told me it was negative but when I looked at the result it clearly said 5.00! And then I took anther and the lab tech or whoever he is called and said I tested positive for HSV 2 just like the previous test! I am just frustrated. So your saying rule out other infections ie. mersa on top of having genital herpes? Man this gets better doesn't it?! Well I am currently having some type of outbreak now as we type... It's right at the opening of my vagina and is an oblong white patch itches like all hell!!! I had mirena in and had it removed a couple weeks ago because the gyno says I look like I have PID or cervicitis... I'm going in to the doc today want to get that swab done before I get on any meds... What else should I ask for? Western blot?

Dear Mz Confused,

I don't know you, I only know about you through following your posts, in large part because I read so much of what Grace writes. If she knew how much I read she might seek out a PFA .. ok, kidding aside.

I am going through to some extent what you are going through. I know it can cause a lot of anxiousness, but I can tell you will get through all of this.

Just know you are a good person and god and many many others love you regardless. I can tell you are a good person, and I feel bad you had a bf who was so reckless. I will say some prayers for you, and I know you will be ok.

Hope my post wasn't unwelcome, take care and god bless.

at this point we need to find out if it's just hsv2 going on or not genitally.  since you've had multiple negative herpes cultures, this is a good reason to continue to follow up on this.

make sure they also do a bacterial culture too. MRSA is very common in the genital area and is transmitted genitally too so it too needs ruled out.

have they been testing you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally too when you are seen?

and sweetie - it's just herpes. 1 out of every 4-5 people you know has it genitally. `1 out of every 2-3 has it orally.  It's incredibly common and NEVER  a reason to consider suicide!! If the feelings get too strong, talk to someone - friends, your doctor, a therapist/counselor or even call a suicide hotline and talk to someone there. Once you finally get it all figured out what is going on, you can treat everything and get it under better control. Once it's under control better, you'll feel better in general about it and it'll get easier to deal with :)

Just a ten day course on three separate occasions... Actually with the last occurrence the doc gave me valtrex in generic form. Do I really need to go through more testing if u am pretty much being told I have this? Scraping the sores tends to be quite painful. I do however get a sore like every 2-3 weeks! They don't hurt or scab up and they are not blisters they look more like puss under my skin... Yellowish. Weird. Thank u for helping me make sense of all this. It's hard not to be suicidal right now I just have to remember that God is a healer!! God bless u.

the numeric result just means that you are positive.  with your initial negative test results, odds are this was contracted from your most recent partner.

odds are you won't get your ex to give you results. Unless you are considering legal action against him, time to just move forward and know that you have it so you can deal with it with future partners.

I'd continue to be seen each time you have genital symptoms to try to get to the bottom of what all is going on down yonder. Hard to tell if it's just herpes or something else going on. encourage your provider to use herpes pcr testing on any lesions you have to increase the odds of getting accurate results for if symptoms are herpes related or not. being on acyclovir will result in negative lesion cultures - are you still on it or did you just take a 10 day course of it?

Ok thank u for your response I think he knew he had it and intentionally gave it to me... He is lying about getting tested and not having anything. Does a number that high mean a person just acquired it? Or has had it a long time? Cause if I had already had it I would not of tested negative the first 3 blood tests I assume?

No. As Grace said, a high positive as yours is not likely to be a false positive.
Has your partner already been tested for hsv2? Odds are you caught it from him.

The negative cultures might be explained due to the time passed between the appearance of the lesions and the swab. the culture accuracy decreases over time.

Yes from what I know and read of the lab result it said out of range and it had a greater than sign with the number 5.00 but is there any other infection that will cause that number to be there besides HSV 2?

so you are sure that it was a hsv2 igg of 5  and not any of the other tests? ( just trying to make sure all the info is right )

a hsv2 igg of 5 isn't likely to be a false positive.

Can any other reason show IGG antibodies for that? I'm trying to find any other possible explanation cause that will be easier to digest than having genital herpes. Thank u for ur time.

Yes I had the type specific IGG and IGM testing for both types and the first two blood tests came back negative for both then the third test was positive greater than 5.00 my boyfriend who I dumped says he tested negative... I'm not sure if I should just accept this disease or get more testing?

so you had 3 lesion cultures totaly that were negative for herpes?

you had follow up type specific herpes igg blood testing that showed a hsv2 igg of greater than 5?

did your bf get tested with a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what his status is?
