Is this oral herpes?

3 weeks ago I had sex with a woman and we kissed and I preformed oral sex on her. This Wednesday, I woke up feeling terrible - achey with a headache and very congested. I don't think I had a fever. I also had a slight tingling sensation in my lips, but I'm not sure if the sensation is from having dry lips or not. I can't really tell.

Anyway, I felt ill Wednesday and Thursday, and then Friday when I woke up, I felt much better and feel fine today as well, albeit I'm still congested and have a cough.  This morning I noticed a white bump on the edge of my lip, which looks a lot like a pimple. Could this be herpes? If it were herpes, would this pimple burst and turn into an open sore?

Would it be possible for me to ask for a clarification about a similar case, Terri? About 60-72 hours after performing oral sex in both directions with a woman I met at a bar a few weeks ago, I fell sick with a pretty bad sore throat that lasted four or five days. I also had aches, swollen neck glands, but no real sinus issues. I was (still am) worried I had been infected with oral herpes (whether HSV 1 or 2). However, I did not have any cold sores, and my understanding is that people who become sick like I did, usually do have cold sores. I received this information on another forum here at Medhelp, but I just wanted to clarify this one point, that if I became ill with a sore throat due to HSV 1 or 2, I would normally expect sores as well. The fact that I didn't find any of these gives me some peace of mind in what has been a very stressful time.

Yeah, I guess it was a pimple. I didn't really touch it, but it kind of popped and started going away, just like a pimple does. It's gone now. I guess I was being paranoid, which tends to happen a decent amount when it comes to things like this. Thanks a lot.

That looks like a pimple to me.  Normally, herpes lesions don't have pus in them as this one does.  But if this changes or you get lots more of them, please have them checked out by a medical professional.  Herpes does not cause congestion or a cough.

Please just keep an eye on this and see if it changes.  Again, if it does, please go in and have a swab test done.

Normally, herpes present as a group of water blisters on the edge of the lip.  Same location where this pimple is but it would normally look different.
