Tailbone ache/hsv-1

Just wondering if tailbone aches are a symptom of ghsv-1? My primary outbreak ended, but my tailbone aches (also just finished my first period since being diagnosed, so not sure if that brought on the tailbone ache...).

Thanks!

if you have both, odds are you'll have frequent recurrences.

wait and test again later on for peace of mind if you need it. Honestly I wouldn't even bother with more testing it's so unlikely that you have them both.

Thanks Grace. So you think that if I had both, it'd be more likely that my breakout would've been type 2? Just trying to calm my nerves a bit. I'd like to go get tested tomorrow but it's only been 6 weeks since my "encounter."

you can have hsv1 and hsv2 both genitally but not a lot of folks have them both.  when you do have them both, typically hsv2 is what reoccurs the most often.

if you want peace of mind, follow up with a blood test in a few months just to see what your hsv2 status is. if your hsv1 comes back negative on the blood test, no reason to doubt your lesion culture though - even the best herpes blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections which is why having lesion cultures typed is so important.

Hi again Grace-I don't know what made me think of this (I think I'm starting to get a little paranoid), but is it possible to be tested positive for HSV-1 via a viral culture but also have HSV-2 even if it didn't show up on the culture? I guess the only way to find out would be to get a blood test?

that's not too unusual. it will get better in time. take ibuprofen regularly for a few days and see if that helps.  Also soaks in the bathtub with epsom salts thrown in are also sometimes useful too.  if it continues or gets worse, see your provider for further evaluation.
