Antibiotics and Western Blot

Hi,
I recently tested 2.35 HSV2, and negative for HSV1 and all other in standard 8 STD test.  My Dr. is ordering the WB for me but am currently on SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 (Sulfamethoxazole Trimethoprim) for a bladder infection that I also had when this first test was taken, tho undiagnosed at the time.  I've never had any symptoms and previous partners have been negative.  From everyone's comments, I sounded like a good candidate for re-testing.

She thinks Im wasting my money of course and that the web, when it comes to medical advice/information, is the devil........

My question is, will this antibiotic affect my WB results, and if so, how long after I've stopped taking them can I take the test?

Thanks so much!

$162 just for the test kit itself, but I have no idea what the lab is going to charge me for the draw and sending it back to U of W.

the tests we have look for the body's igg response to being infected with herpes. For some folks, it can take a few weeks/months until you have a high enough level to test accurately on the tests we use.

One more question Grace, is it possible for someone to fight the virus and not get it?  Is that why you wait 4 months after last encounter?  Thanks in advance!

you have to order the Wb from the U of washington and have it sent to your house. then your provider can order it to be drawn at your local lab and sent out for you.

Thank you for that!

So 4 months, period?  That will give an acurate reading?  Really good to know!  I didn't catch that anywhere.

Gives me plenty of time to get another Dr!

you have to wait at least 4 months after you last had sex to seek out the herpes WB blood test.

the antibiotics won't affect herpes testing.

your provider needs to read the 2010 cdc herpes guidelines. the low positives are well known and it's actually malpractice to not confirm low positives with additional testing. your provider is risking her practice by not being up to date on this info!!!
