Recent Test Results

I recently underwent a precautionary full STD test.  I've never displayed symptoms of anything.  The results came back with the following:

Herpes I IgG  -- 54.5
Herpes II IgG -- 3.4

Both results are considered positive.  However, after doing quite a bit of additional research it seems that the HSV2 test may potentially be a false positive, given its relatively low index value and the seemingly high index value of the HSV1 test.

My doctor didn't provide me with much in the way of information regarding this test.  All of the information I've come across is the result of combing through forums and research articles.  He simply stated, "this is what you have."

How should I interpret these results?  Am I positive for both HSV1 and HSV2?  Is this conclusive?  Any insight/advice/comments would be extremely helpful.  Thanks.

If you tested positive by swab test, you have herpes.  If you have never in your life had another sexual partner in your lifetime nor received any oral sex from any other person, then your boyfriend's test is missing his infection or he isn't being honest about this.

I would like to know if my boyfriend tests negative for HSV1 and HSV2, how on earth can I test positive? I only have sex with him. i have one small blister that appears every three (3) years at the base of coccyx bone. It is 1/4 the size of a dime. It is very very tiny. It will stay 4-5 days. Completely disappear and come back three (3) years later. I was told this is a herpetic outbreak. The first doctor did a culture which came back positive.  My partner continues to test negative.  I went to a second doctor who said it is NOT herpes just a very nasty fungus. He gave me some medication and said it should go away for good and never come back.  I am otherwise in excellent health.  Can you explain what may be really going on here?  Thank you.

OK.  Again, the 59 makes no sense in terms of the tests routinely used that I am familiar with.  You might try getting a herpeselect ELISA if you can.

Actually, I went back to verify my results and noticed that the HSV1 value is 59.5 (higher than I reported in my initial post).  Your comment is helpful.  I was thinking that another test seemed like the correct approach, and that is what I will do.

Your values are very different than anything I've seen before (the 54.5), so I am thinking that I don't know who to interpret this for you.  However, regardless of what test is was, the HSV 2 value is very small compared to the HSV 1 value, so I think confirmatory testing is advised in your case.  It can be ordered through Quest labs (this one was NOT done through Quest labs, I would guess), and the code is 34534.  I hope you will pursue this and let us know how it comes out, OK?

Good Morning,  I did the testing also, with no symptoms, and came back positive for HSV2.  Not happy with the IgG, so I did a Western Blot.  The Western Blot is the best test for confirmation.  Mine was positive for both 1 and 2.
