Trying to Understand

My daughter (17) was just diagnosed with genital HSV-1,  Her outbreak was about 3 weeks ago and since then she has been very opened about her sex life.  She has told me that she did have intercourse (her first) with her boyfriend 3-4 times prior to her outbreak and one time without any protection (trust me I don't understand that one either) about 2-3 weeks before her outbreak.  Prior to that probably almost a year ago she had oral sex with a boy.  Her current friend went and was tested but his results came back negative.  I know an outbreak can happen at any time but this seems to be too much of a coincidence.  I believe he just had a urine sample but I'm not positive at this time.  Is it possible that he is a carrier and they didn't do a in depth test for him.  His results show that they did an Amplified Probe test.  I've heard that a lot of times if there are no signs or not an actual outbreak it may come back neg if the right test are not completed.  I had my daughter do a Herpes Select test which is 98% accurate.

The amplified probe tests are for gonorrhea and chlamydia, not herpes.

I am sorry that you had to be talked down to from some people here.  But I agree with grace did your daughter have a lesion culture done?  And Grace is correct you cannot test for herpes by urine.  What was your daughter herpes select test result?  My opinion is that you need not focus on who gave it to her ,but rather giving her support and love.  Please take care and my heart goes out to you.  :))

You can not test for herpes thru urine- well  you can but not for this reason. Her partner will need to get himself a type specific herpes igg blood test for hsv1 and hsv2 ( might as well cover the bases ) to see what his status is.

did your daughter have a lesion culture that also said hsv1+ or did she have a visual exam that was suggestive of herpes and then had a blood test to try to see which type?

Could your daughter have contracted hsv1 from her last partner and not realized it and is just now having an obvious ob? Yes she could've.  It's more common than most folks realize.

Once you fill in the info about how your daughter was tested I can give you some additional comments on what to do next.

...you will find that GHSV1 really is not something to worry much about. It does not recur that often. It is far more often transmitted orally-to-genitally than genitally-to-genitally.

What difference does it make? 60% of the country has HSV1. You probably have it too. Spend sometime reading about HSV1.

What is your concern? Are you trying to pinpoint who gave it to your daughter? She most likely got it when somebody went down on her, either this current guy, or someone before that time. Doesn't really matter at this point, does it?

Was her lesion cultured?
