Can a positive blood test for HSV-1 turn negative a year later?

I am confused. I tested positive 7.20 for HSV-1. During that time I had an itchy rash on my penis and never have had a cold sore. So, I assumed I had genital HSV-1. My HSV-2 results came back negative. So, a year later I was tested again and both HSV-1 and HSV-2 came back negative. What does this mean?

Igg blood tests for hsv1 are not that great and can miss up to 30% of infections. You can retest again or seek out the western blot.
