Very Confused about Herpes

by krod, May 23, 2009 12:36AM
Hello - Great Forum.  I am very confused about my situation. I have been with the same girl for a few years. I was her first sexual encounter. She recently went to a gyn exam where she was advised that she has HSV2 Positive. Knowing that I have never had any symptoms, I went to the doctor to get a test done. My results are as follows:

HSV1 IGG Herpeselect AB = .27
This assay is type specific and will diferentiate between HSV1 - HSV2 infections. A single positive results only indicates previous immunologic exposure and the level or antibody response may not be used to determine active infection or diesease stage. The test should be repeated in 4-6 weeks when negative  or equivocal results are obtained in suspected early herpes simplex disease.
The performance of this assay has not been established for pedriatic popuilations, for neonatal screeings, or for the testing of immucocompromised patients.
interpretation: negative

HSV2 IGG Herpeselect AB = .17

I have seen her results as positive, and I have had unprotected sex with her. (Last time on Feb. 14)
This blood was collected on 5/1/09.

1) Do I have exposure to Herpes?
2) Is it possible this test is wrong and I have it?
3) Is it possible to have a result with numbers this low?
4) Why is my doctor saying I have to test again as if this was an error?
5) Assuming I don't have it and she does - what are the chances that she got HSV2 not from a sexual encounter. is it even 5%?
6) Assuming I don't have any sexual encounters - how long does i take to show HSV in a test like this?

How was your gf tested? Did she have obvious symptoms of herpes or did she get s blood test?

Hi Grace,

She had a pap test and blood test (same title as my test) her number for HSV2 was 3.4, and mine is .17. Last time we have done anything is Feb 14.  My test is May 1. I just don't understand how mine can be so low and hers so high?  and also if 2 months is enough time to know if I have it! This is just so confusing.  She claims she has never had symptoms at all, and I have never seen any symptoms on her or myself.
