What is a cross-reacting antigen for HSV?

Hello!
My IGG for HSV1 was under .91 but my IGG for HSV2 was 1.19.
I was wondering what a cross-reacting antigen is though and
how that might have slightly affected my score.
Would you both retesting later?
Never had an outbreak... been with the same person for 6 years.
Got tested while pregnant and with a current yeast infection.

I think this low positive is false, not sure if I should seek out a western blot or just let it go.

Any advice would be so appreciated and thank you!

**The bottom of my report says:
HSV 1 and HSV2 share many cross-reacting antigens. Elevated titers to both HSV 1 and HSV 2 may represent crossreactive HSV antibodies rather than exposure to both HSV 1 and HSV 2. Results for this test are for research purposes only by thr assay's manufacturer. The performance characteristics of this product have not been established. Results should not be used as a diagnostic procedure without confirmation of the diagnosis by another medically established diagnostic product or procedure.

SO... was this test totally useless?? So confused!

sorry i had to go out, glad you found how to post to Terri. she is an expert and will be able to help you.
the risk to your child is very low- don't quote me, but i think its less than 1% risk of transmission if you are not having an outbreak at the time of delivery. if you are having an outbreak, the ob may want to do a c-section.
i think the other thing the ob might do is put you on anti-virals towards the end of your pregnancy.
I'm sure everything will be fine, but knowledge is power when it comes to herpes. you need to make informed decisions about your own health and the health of your baby so its good to know all the facts! good luck.

Not sure if I've double posted now, but I did pay. Again, thank you so much for that bit of help :)
To Grace, if you come along here, PLEASE comment anyways since the above mentioned how wise you were. I would love hearing from you :)

Oh I think I figured it out - $20 to ask a question. WILL DO! Thank you for that tip!

Yes I definitely want to be sure... although, from what I have read, HSV 2 poses no real risk to your child unless you are having a vaginal outbreak during delivery. (again, so I've read)
Breastfeeding is also no problem (supposedly) as long as there is no outbreak actually on the breast itself.

I'm so new here, I searched around and found a page here for Terri Warren, but did not see a spot to pay for an answer. If you don't mind, can you direct me to that? I would gladly do that to hear what might be going on and/or what I might want to do/ask when I go for a retest or a western blot.

sorry but i just don't know anything about cross reacting etc. hopefully grace comes along soon and can help you out as she is very knowledgable.
if it was me, i would want to know all this before i delivered the baby.
have you considered paying to get terri warren to answer your questions? just to get to the bottom of all this.

Also, can your IGG be raised because of allergies or is that only IGE antibodies?
(Can you tell I've flooded myself with too much info, lol)
I have 2 large dogs that I am allergic to but live with and do not take any medication for. Not that that matters at all, but it might?

Typically I see a midwife, who wasn't available today. I only saw the OB last Saturday because I thought they could give me something better for my yeast infection... and now it's turned into all of this.
From what I have read online, this low positive of only 1.19 is really not very positive at all. But then again, I don't know... blood testing should be completely accurate, you'd think!
I guess I will request a Western Blot (do they do that test everywhere?)
Wondering if I should wait though till I'm not pregnant.

Still not finding any info on what exactly a cross reacting antigen is and/or what could slightly elevate your antibody levels to 1.19. Could something as simple as being pregnant raise my score?

what does your ob say you should do?
i would say to seek out the western blot, just to be safe.

are you pregnant at the moment?

no and no. I've never even had a cold sore on my lip or anything.
Just got tested because the OB thought it would be a good idea.
(I was in there for a yeast infection. Never dreamed they'd test me for Herpes. I have been tested for Herpes before in 2004 with a negative result)
**During my yeast infection I had no sores at all. Very very typical yeast infection during pregnancy and was cleared up with OTC medicine.
