What is wrong with me?!?

About a year ago I "hooked up" with a guy that I knew had been very sexually active. I realized this was not a great decision at the time and the contact was minimal but it was still contact. We started having sex (he went inside me one time...sorry, I tried to think of a better way to phrase it and came up with nothing!) and when he started I realized he did not have a condom on so I made him stop. He didn't have any condoms, so all all sexual activity was finished at that point. Two weeks after I had a very bad rash break out in my mouth, then I had blisters cluster up inside my mouth, I had a sore throat, a coated tonge, all the great stuff you don't want to find. I went to a gynecolgist and she ran some blood work. She said that I have both oral and genital herpes-fabulous. However, she did not take a culture of anything in my  mouth. I have been on valtrex (one a day) but unfortunately the ailment in my mouth continues. I have had cold sores break out when I forget to take one of my pills but my mouth is constantly peeling. I was not taking the Valtrex immediately following diagnosis, but whether I'm on it or not my mouth is in constant turmoil. The reason for this quesiton is this.....I know that Herpes are highly contagious and I absolutely do not want to spread them to anyone. So, I have pretty much quit dating. I know that before I have sex with anyone I will have to tell them but I just don't want to have to tell the next person I want to kiss. At the same time I can't risk giving it to anyone if my mouth is contagious. PLEASE HELP!! I have been to countless doctors ranging from gynecologist, internal medicine, and a periodontist. I know that I am not crazy but I sure am starting to feel that way.

What testing did you have done? Can you get a copy of any of the herpes blood testing you had done to post here - ie hsv1 igg 4. 5 and hsv2 igg 5. 2 or whatever the results were?

Just because you had a blood test that was + for herpes, doesn't mean that the mouth symptoms are due to herpes.  Their continuation this long also points in the direct that it's not herpes related.

Hi! I am not sure what testing she did. I am going to try and get a copy of the test results though so I can let you know. I've been extremely stressed out and for six months beat myself up for my wrong decisions. I have had three hiv tests, all negative, and I've just been really concerned about being contagious. Everything I have researched on my own does not point to my problems being herpes but with all the doctors I've seen I just can't figure out what else could be wrong. The inside of my mouth just peels and peels and I have sores. In the time frame that I had the breakout and the combination of being diagnosed at the same time I just figured that is what it was. I wasn't given very much information on herpes...just basically told sorry you have both and have a nice day. I've tried to research as much on my own as possible I just get scared and overwhelmed. Thank you so much for your time.
