I too live in New York, and have been told by quest labs and west over clinic that the western blot cannot be administered to residents of New York. Best of luck!
It's the test we use to help us weed out false positives on other igg testing. It's the blood test that is used in research the most in herpes testing too.
http://depts.washington.edu/rspvirus/documents/hsv_western_blot.pdf has information for you and your provider on how to obtain this test to confirm your status.
Can you tell me more about the "herpes western blot blood test"?
Hello Guys,
What a coincidence! I am in the same situation than Tulsawomen. I had a bloodwork perform by labcorp once in mid august with the following
Results
HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec 54.00 High
HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec 1.19 High
After that my MD told me that it was probably a false positive and I should wait to perform another bloodwork.
I waited until last week and got another bloodwork performed by labcorp and got these Results today
HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec 44 High
HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec 1.34 High
Same story for my MD It remain a false positive and that without symptoms I should not worry about it. I cannot take than for an answer and want to do a WB but my MD do not find it necessary. What should I do I leave in NY and it seems impossible to get it done with my MD and in NY state !
I want to know my true status!!!
Please help me!
your provider erred in prescribing valtrex for you to take. there was never any reason for you to take it. you weren't having any obvious lesions to treat.
at this point, I"d seek out a herpes western blot blood test to see if your hsv2 igg is a true positive or not. Make sure it's been at least 16 weeks since you last had sex with anyone before doing so.
keep asking questions!
Thank you. Your comment was greatly appreciated.
Hi and welcome. It shows positive for hsv1 and most likely its oral from childhood. It also shows a postive for hsv2 that certainly falls into the false positive range and in need of retesting to confirm.
Low positives infer a false positive or a recent infection. But if youve never had any outbreaks or symptoms it most likely a false positive.
