Worried about Herpes after protected sex

Hello,

I am a 24 year old male and last year in April of 2014, I engaged in sexual activity with a girl I did not know very well. It was just a one night stand and we had protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral. Embarrassingly, this was my first time. I had asked about her STD history and she said that has been tested frequently and was clean. However, after we were done, she did mention that she has had a history with many partners and hooks up a decent amount (which is why she gets tested so often).

Anyways, after the encounter, I was fine for two to three weeks (Maybe a month) but then I experienced from burning when urinating one morning. I checked my penis and there were no sores or blisters anywhere. I thought it was because I was dehydrated, so I drank some water and the burning stopped and never came back. Soon after that experience, I noticed a patch of flesh colored bumps near the base of my penis (could have been an area that was not covered by the condom). The bumps hurt slightly at the beginning, but the pain stopped after a day. after about three or four days the bumps became flaky and dry and came off. I have had a history of dry foreskin. My skin has always become white and ashy whenever I masturbate, so I really didn't think much of it. Somewhere in this time range, I had also developed a fever and got a bit sick, but my roommates were also getting sick at this time and our apartment was very dirty.

A few months passed and in September, I noticed that I had a red bump at the base of my penis. I took a warm shower and cleaned the area and the next day it was scabbed over and it disappeared by the day after that. I assumed that since there were hairs in this area, that it was an infected hair follicle or ingrown hair. I haven't had anything since then aside from some dry skin issues with my foreskin. Now, I am in a committed relationship and we have yet to have sex. We are planning to soon and I am concerned that I will pass on something to this girl if I did indeed have herpes.

My question is that based on my experience, do you think that this sounds like it could be herpes? Should I get tested based on all of these symptoms I have had? Or do you think I am just freaking out about this and putting too many things together to convince myself?

Any kind of input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Get the test there is nothing to be gained by guessing and your symptoms do not match.

I have not yet taken it. I will hopefully go in soon to do so. I am just really worried that these symptoms seem to match that of what many consider to be herpes symptoms. I am having a hard time coming to the realization that I could have contracted this disease after having protected sex.

Again, nothing here is strongly suggestive of herpes.

However the HSV test result will have told you all needed to know? How did it go?

Hello,

I have a quick update/question and I am really freaking out. For the last two days, I have had some pain and burning down my right leg. I read that this could be a prodrome symptom of herpes. Then, last night, I felt a slight tingle towards the tip of my penis. However, when I looked, there was nothing there. Then, just now, I somehow by chance felt that area and felt a little tiny rough patch. When I looked closely in the light, I saw what looked to be an extremely tiny papercut that was already scabbed over (hence the rough feeling). I really don't know how I found it seeing that I can barely see it and need to search around a bit in the light now just to see it again. Does this sound like it could be a herpes recurrence? and if so, would a recurrence possibly be able to heal within one day/scab within one day?

Thanks!

Thank you so much for your reply! I know that I am definitely over analyzing the situation a bit here and I think a part of that is worrying about there even being a slight chance that I could do something to ruin the relationship I am currently in since I really care about this girl. I have just read so many horror stories about people who have contracted herpes even with a condom on and so I am just a bit worried that that could be the case for me.

There is nothing in the symptoms that would make me think herpes could be an issue here. The timing is out and the symptoms do not include the lesions that would give you pause for thought. Hence yes I think you are reverse engineering to a diagnosis that carries no weight.

With protected vaginal sex only the oral could be an issue for passing an STD bacteria, and this would be exceptionally rare. The risk of anything s very low but you may like to think about an STD panel just to give you peace of mind (and confidently report to your next partner!) Include HSV1 and HSV2 IgG antibodies for completeness.

I also wanted to add that the initial rash was not red or blister like. I was just very dry and became flaky and peeled off. I am just worried since I have never had anything like that before and then it happened after I had this sexual encounter.
